Explore some of northern Vietnam's most extraordinary sites on this 2-day guided tour from Hanoi to Ninh Bình. Travel along Highway 1A through scenic countryside, cruise by sampan through the caves and limestone karsts of Tràng An, and visit the splendid Mua Cave and romantic Tuyet Tinh Coc. Continue to Hoa Lư, the 10th-century capital of Đại Cồ Việt, before discovering the sacred temples and the marvellous Bái Đính Pagoda complex, home to 500 stone La Han statues and three bronze Tam Thế statues weighing 50 tons each.

Cycle back to Tràng An through the villages and visit Tuyet Tinh Coc to see the romantic lake surrounded by karsts and jungle, before continuing to the bungalow for check-in.

The itinerary

1
Day 01

Mua Cave, Tràng An and Tuyet Tinh Coc

  • 08:00-08:30: Meet your Vietnamese tour guide and get picked up from your hotel before driving to Ninh Bình, enjoying the peaceful scenery along Highway 1A.

  • Stop for a short break, then arrive at Tràng An Wharf for an exciting sampan boat trip through the caves and along the stunning river, surrounded by limestone karsts with rich fauna and flora.

  • Enjoy a buffet lunch of Vietnamese cuisine at a restaurant before cycling to Mua Cave, taking in the stunning rice fields along the road.

  • Walk up to the top of the mountain where Mua Cave is located, visit the lovely stalactites and stalagmites inside, and marvel at the spectacular view from the top of the valley.

  • Cycle back to Tràng An through the villages and visit Tuyet Tinh Coc to see the romantic lake surrounded by karsts and jungle, before continuing to the bungalow for check-in.

  • Swim, read books, or simply relax before dinner at around 19:00, then enjoy the night at a bar opposite the pool.

Day 02

Hoa Lư Ancient Capital and Bái Đính Pagoda

  • 06:30: Wake up early to see the marvellous sunrise and enjoy a hearty breakfast before visiting Hoa Lư, the site of a 10th-century capital of the ancient Vietnamese kingdom of Đại Cồ Việt.

  • Proceed to the sacred Đinh Tiên Hoàng Temple (King Đinh Temple) and Lê Hoàn Temple (King Lê Temple), then enjoy a cooking lesson on how to make authentic cakes with simple ingredients available at home.

  • Check out after lunch and board a bus to visit the glimmering Bái Đính Pagoda complex, the largest pagoda in Southeast Asia.

  • See the 500 stone statues of La Han (Arhats), 2 huge bronze bells, and three bronze statues of Tam Thế, weighing 50 tons each, before taking the bus back to Hanoi.

19:00: Drop off at your hotel in Hanoi.
