Day 01

Hanoi Village and Rice-Growing Experience

Meet your local tour guide and set out for a village visit.
Listen to stories about how rice is the staple food in Vietnam and how it was once used as a traditional form of currency.
Visit the rice fields and see the two principal ways of growing rice - in wet paddies or on dry hillsides.
Meet the villagers and observe how they plough the paddy twice with the help of water and buffalo.
Smooth out the paddy so that it is completely flat and evenly moist.
Dig and fertilize rice seedling beds along one side of the field, then let the rice germinate. The villagers will explain the entire process, including how they dry it, process it, and later send it to the markets.
