The itinerary

Day 01

Drive from Rishikesh to Govindghat via Joshimath

  • Drive from Rishikesh to Govindghat (1,828 m) via Joshimath. Govindghat is located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand and serves as a base for many treks, including Kuari Pass, Pangarchula Peak, and Valley of Flowers. The journey covers 270 km and takes about 7.5 hours.

  • Witness the confluence of the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers forming the Ganges on the way.

Day 02

Trek from Govindghat to Bhyundar village and Roopdhungi

  • Make your way towards Bhyundar village, which is the starting point of the trek to Kagbhusandi Lake.

  • Encounter rocky areas, glaciers, shrubs, rivers, and more on the first day of your trek.

  • Enjoy the sound of the gushing Alaknanda River as you move forward. After Bhyundar village, the trail passes through dense bear-infested rhododendron forests. It is here that you will catch your first glimpse of Hathi Parvat while moving towards Roopdhungi.

Stay overnight in tents at Roopdhungi.

Distance covered: 10 km.

Day 03

Trek through Bhyundar Valley to Martoli and Raj Khark

  • Move from Roopdhungi to Martoli and later to Rajkharak. The entire trail is beautiful and soothing to the eyes. The trek covers 6 km.

  • Walk along a colourful route with various flowers in full bloom and snow-clad Himalayan peaks in the background.

  • Pass through Kargil, Martoli, Bankbara, and Dang Khark.

  • Camp at Raj Khark for the day. These are all beautiful campsites for trekkers, and many shepherds from nearby villages use this area as pastureland for grazing their livestock.

Day 04

Trek onward to Rajkhark

  • Trek to Rajkhark. The trek covers 5 km.

Day 05

Excursion to Kagbhushandi and return to Rajkharg

  • Trek to Kagbhushandi and return to Rajkharg. The total distance covered is 8 km.

Day 06

Descend to Bhyundar Valley

  • Trek to Bhyundar Valley. The trek covers 10 km.

Day 07

Trek to Joshimath and continue by road

  • Trek towards Joshimath. The trekking distance is 9 km.

  • Drive the remaining 20 km.

Day 08

Drive from Joshimath back to Rishikesh

  • Drive to Rishikesh. The journey covers 252 km and takes about 7.5 hours.
