Itinerary

1. Day 1- Meriakamba Hut (Full board)

   • Arrive at Kilimanjaro International or a similar Airport. Get picked up from the airport and transfer to the Safari Lodge Hotel or similar hotel in Arusha for an overnight stay (40 km, 30 minutes).

   • Drive from Arusha to Momella Gate. 

   • After a short registration at the gate, the walk will begin with full armed ranger escorting you.

   • See numerous wild animals along the way, including elephants, zebras, giraffes, monkeys, antelope, and elephants.

   Stay overnight at Miriakamba Hut.

   Elevation: 1,387 m to 1,500 m

   Distance: 10 km

   Hiking Time: 4-6 hours

   Habitat: Montane Forest

2. Day 2- Saddle Hut (Full board)

   • Walk from Miriakamba Hut to the Little Meru. The walk will take us slowly along the ridge for a spectacular view of the Meru Crater and the impressive Ash Cone. 

   • Have lunch at Saddle Hut.

   • Make a short climb to the summit of Little Meru (3,820 m) for superb views just before the sunset.

   • Have dinner and stay overnight at Saddle Hut.

   Elevation: 2,514 m to 3,570 m

   Distance: 8 km

   Hiking Time: 3-5 hours

   Habitat: Forest and Moorland

3. Day 3- Summit Day (Half Board)

   • Climb steeply to Rhino Point (3,800 m) and onto Cobra Point (4,350 m). 

   • Reach the summit (4,566 m) for sunrise. There is a possibility to see Kilimanjaro Peak above the clouds. The final part of the climb is along a spectacular narrow ridgeline between the sheer inner cliffs and the crater's sloping outer wall. 

   • Take rest for a while and have brunch at Saddle Hut before continuing the descent to the Momella gate.

   • Transfer to your hotel in Arusha.

   Elevation: 3,570 m to 4,565 m to 2,514 m

   Distance: 5 km up and 13 km down.

   Hiking Time: 12-14 hours

   Habitat: Alpine Desert Moorland and Montane forest
