5-Day Bhutan Sightseeing Tour through Thimphu, Punakha and Paro

• Board an early morning flight to Paro and meet your Bhutanese tour guide upon arrival. Transfer to Thimphu, check in at the hotel, and have lunch.

• Visit the Bhutan Post Office for its beautiful Bhutanese stamps, then continue to the weaving center to see traditional Bhutanese weaving before driving to the Folk Heritage Museum.

• Head to Memorial Chorten and the embroidery handicraft shops, along with the largest and newly built Buddha statue, which offers a magnificent view of the entire Thimphu Valley. Also visit the fortress of Thimphu at 5 pm and Tashichho Dzong, which houses the throne of the king.

• Drive to Punakha after breakfast over Dochula Pass at 3150 m and enjoy a spectacular view of the highest mountains of Bhutan, weather permitting, across a panorama that stretches almost 180 degrees.

• Walk around the 108 stupas, enjoy the view and the fresh air, and then continue your drive to the warm valley of Punakha.

• Visit Punakha Dzong Fortress, which houses the most elaborately decorated temple in the country and is a fine example of Bhutan's rich art and architecture. After lunch, go for an hour-long hike to the temple of Khamsum Yuley Lhakhang. If there is enough time, visit the Wangdue Phodrang ruin dzong.

Overnight: Punakha

• Drive back to Paro after breakfast and visit the temple of Chimi Lhakhang en route, the temple of fertility associated with religious phallic art.

• Upon reaching Paro, after lunch, visit Ta Dzong and then walk to Paro Dzong (Fortress). Continue by crossing the oldest wooden bridge, which is still in use, and visit Kichu Temple, one of the oldest temples in Bhutan, built in the 7th century.

• Enjoy a delicious dinner in a local traditional Bhutanese farmhouse, accompanied by a cultural show featuring traditional Bhutanese dance.

Overnight: Paro | Altitude: 2200 m.

• Hike for about 2 hours uphill to reach Tiger's Nest, the most revered temple in the country, which literally hangs on a granite cliff overlooking the splendid Paro Valley.

Have lunch in the cafeteria and head back to the hotel to enjoy the facilities, along with a hot stone bath.
