The itinerary

1
Day 01

Arrival in Arusha and Safari Briefing

  • Arrive in Arusha and head to Outpost Lodge, a beautiful lodge located on the lower slopes of Mount Meru and a perfect place to prepare for the adventure.

  • Gather in the evening at 5:30 pm for a pre-safari briefing and an equipment check.

Dinner and overnight at Outpost Lodge: Full board.

2
Day 02

Tarangire National Park Game Viewing

  • Drive to Tarangire National Park for excellent game viewing. Tarangire is a small park that offers some excellent sights. Generally, in the dry season, Tarangire comes alive as wildlife and birdlife congregate along the Tarangire River, which is a permanent source of water.

  • Spend the night in a lodge.

Dinner and overnight at Fanaka Lodge: Full board.

3
Day 03

Full-Day Safari in Lake Manyara National Park

  • Drive to Lake Manyara National Park for a full day of game drives. This is one of Tanzania's smaller parks, but it still offers a rewarding and diverse safari experience. The lakeshore at Manyara teems with birdlife, and while you are looking for the birds, you might spot one of the elusive tree-climbing lions.

  • There are a surprising number of other large mammals, and the striking cliffs on the Rift escarpment form a dramatic backdrop.

  • In the late afternoon, make a short journey from the park to your lodge.

Dinner and overnight at Flamingos Lodge: Full board.

4
Day 04

Lake Eyasi Tribal Visit with the Hadzabe and Dagota

  • After breakfast, depart for Lake Eyasi to meet the elusive Hadzabe tribe, from whom you will learn more about their fascinating culture.

  • Head for a picnic lunch, then take the Dagota village tour.

  • Head back in the evening.

Dinner and overnight at Tindiga Tented Camp: Full board.

5
Day 05

Hadzabe Bush Walk and Transfer to Serengeti

  • Start early with your bushman guide to meet a group of resident Hadzabe people.

  • Enjoy the Hadzabe tour by walking into the bush with the only hunter-gatherers remaining in the East African region. The Hadzabe speak a click-based language and move their encampments with the seasonal movements of the wildlife. Your guide is a member of the group and teaches you more about how they hunt, track wildlife, make fire, and even take honey from bees' nests before introducing you to his people and explaining a little more about their customs and way of life.

  • Then proceed to Serengeti National Park with an en-route game drive.

Dinner and overnight at Serengeti Bush Tented Camp: Full board.

6
Day 06

Full-Day Game Drive in the Serengeti

  • Take another full day of game viewing in this wonderful park. You are advised to wake up early to make the most of your time.

  • Spend time at the Hippo Pool, watching these majestic animals laze about in the cool water, coexisting alongside the crocodiles.

  • During the migration season, you can spot predators in the middle of their hunt, surrounded by wildebeest and zebras.

  • Journey from the wide-open plains to the kopjes. These volcanic rocky outcrops provide protection and shelter for a wide variety of wildlife.

  • From the top, you can look out across the vast grasslands of the Serengeti. This diverse and interesting landscape will provide you with the ultimate in game viewing, as well as glimpses of interesting birdlife, from the elegant secretary birds to the flightless ostrich.

  • Return to your special tented camp for the night.

Dinner and overnight at Serengeti Bush Tented Camp: Full board.

7
Day 07

Ngorongoro Crater Safari and Return to Arusha

  • Have a final game drive in the Serengeti before heading back into the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

  • Ngorongoro is special because it is a Conservation Area, not a National Park. The whole area is managed for both the animals and the local Maasai people, who graze their cattle alongside the indigenous wildlife. During the drive in Ngorongoro, you will get a glimpse of the Maasai way of life.

  • After stopping at the entrance gate to learn more about this fascinating volcanic landscape, drive around the rim of the crater itself. From here, you can look down and see herds of wildebeest or buffalo.

  • Descend into the crater. The crater walls provide a natural sanctuary for the animals, which means there is plenty to see: lions, elephants, buffaloes, rhinos, and leopards, if you are lucky. The only animal you will not see here is a giraffe, whose long legs are unable to cope with the steep sides of the crater.

  • In the late afternoon, travel back to Arusha via Karatu.

Dinner and overnight at Outpost Lodge: Full board.

8
Day 08

Relaxation in Arusha and Departure

  • Use this morning to relax after your great northern safari or explore the Maasai market in Arusha.

  • Head to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO).
