Day 01

Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport

  • Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), where you will meet your tour representative and transfer to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi.

  • In the evening, attend a briefing with a designated presenter, who will also make sure you are fully prepared to begin the climb.

Day 02

Lemosho Glades to Shira 2 Camp

  • Meet your Kilimanjaro guide and mountain support crew at the hotel.

  • After another briefing, travel by vehicle for roughly 3-4 hours to Kilimanjaro National Park's western entrance at Londorossi Gate (2,200 m).

  • After the quick formalities of obtaining climbing permits and registering with the search and rescue service, continue upward by off-road vehicle to the drop-off point at 3,500 m. From here, you will see stunning views of the Shira Plateau for the first time.

  • The route from the drop-off point to your first high-altitude camp, Shira 2, involves a moderate gain in altitude and is not too physically challenging.

  • This is where you properly begin the acclimatisation process through a steady ascent. By the time you reach camp, your professional mountain crew will prepare everything necessary, pitch the tents, and cook dinner for you.

Day 03

Shira 2 Camp via Lava Tower to Barranco Camp

  • After breakfast, leave Shira 2 Camp (3,900 m) and make your way to the key point of the route: Lava Tower (4,630 m). This section includes many ascents and descents and ends at over 4,600 m. It may feel difficult and you may experience some discomfort, but to acclimatise successfully, you need to spend at least 1-2 hours here, so this is where lunch will be served.

  • Then descend to Barranco Camp (3,960 m). Here, you can see the famous Barranco Wall, impressive in both its massive size and steepness. You will climb it the next day, but there is no need to worry, as it follows a very simple hiking trail.

Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak and Millennium Camp

  • Depart from Barafu Camp (4,640 m) at night to begin your summit ascent of Kilimanjaro to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). Each pair of climbers will have a personal guide for the entire ascent to monitor your physical and mental condition.

  • After your successful ascent to Uhuru Peak, descend to the nearest glacier if desired. Then return to Barafu Camp and, after a 2-hour rest, continue descending to Millennium Camp (3,820 m).

Know before you go

  • Lemosho Route is a premium trek designed for 6 to 8 days. Climbing through different climate zones, it starts on heath and continues across alpine meadows before ascending to the arctic zone near Uhuru Peak. The descent, in turn, passes through the rainforest. All this makes the route the most scenic on Kilimanjaro. Lemosho offers the smoothest acclimatisation and the highest success rates of 85%, 90%, and 95% for 6-, 7-, and 8-day tours, respectively. The total distance covered on the Lemosho Route is 46 km (28.5 miles). We recommend this trail for those ready to pay a bit extra for a high-altitude drop-off by vehicle.

  • It is strongly recommended that you heed the following instructions from this point on: abstain from consuming alcohol and caffeine. Drink over 4 litres of bottled water daily, little by little and frequently. Take a Diamox pill to help alleviate symptoms of altitude sickness. Most mountain climbers take Diamox in the morning before they start their ascent in order to reduce discomfort associated with altitude sickness. We recommend that you consult your doctor prior to the trip in case of potential allergies. At night, you may experience discomfort associated with acclimatisation to the high altitude. Because of a reduction in your waking breathing pattern, your body gets less oxygen than during the day. Taking altitude into account, you may therefore start feeling sick and develop a headache. Pay attention to your body and tell your guide if you begin to feel any symptoms of altitude sickness.

  • The acclimatisation hike is an easy trek with a slight gain in altitude, done in order to speed up the acclimatisation process. Therefore, you should take the acclimatisation hikes very seriously. They help increase your chances of successfully summiting Kilimanjaro and protect you from the consequences of altitude sickness.

  • Don't forget that 90% of all accidents occur during the descent, including all broken arms and legs. So please pay attention to your feet, as there is a high risk of damaging your toenails.
