Head for Mount Pisco (5752 m), one of the easiest peaks to climb in the Cordillera Blanca and perfect for acclimatization before tackling a higher summit. This 3-day trekking tour takes you through the Llanganuco Valley, past the beautiful glacier lakes of Chinancocha and Urqu Qucha, and up to Pisco Base Camp in Huascarán National Park. Reach the summit of Pisco and savour spectacular views of peaks such as Chacraraju, Yanapaccha, Chopicalqui, Huascarán, Huandoy, Pirámide Garcilaso, Artesonraju, Caraz, and Alpamayo.

From the summit, you will see around a dozen peaks, some of them over six thousand meters high, including Mount Huascarán.

The itinerary

Day 01

Huaraz to Pisco Base Camp via Llanganuco Valley

  • 6:00 AM: Depart from Huaraz towards the north.

  • Travel along the Callejón de Huaylas Valley until you reach the town of Yungay with your Peruvian tour guide.

  • Turn east and continue driving up towards the Llanganuco Valley, passing two beautiful glacier lakes, Chinancocha and Urqu Qucha, on the way to Cebollapampa.

  • Walk for about 3 hours from Cebollapampa with the donkey driver and animal support service until you reach the base camp at 4665 m.

Day 02

Midnight Ascent to the Summit of Pisco

  • Wake up around midnight and have breakfast at 1:00 AM, then begin climbing along the moraine and rocky trail for about 3 hours.

  • Once you reach the glacier, put on your crampons and use the rope to continue up to the summit of Pisco at 5752 m, which takes about 4 more hours. From the summit, you will see around a dozen peaks, some of them over six thousand meters high, including Mount Huascarán.

  • Return by the same route to your campsite.

Day 03

Descent to Cebollapampa and Return to Huaraz

  • After breakfast, descend to Cebollapampa in about 3 hours.

  • Take your private transport back to Huaraz.
