The itinerary

1

Day 01

From Iquitos to Rio Yarapa Lodge and Dolphin Search

• Pick up from your hotel or airport in a private car at around 8:30 a.m. from Iquitos. After a drive of about 1.5 hours, we reach the town of Nauta.
• In Nauta, we change to a typical boat from this region, which takes us to the lodge in 2 hours. Sail on the two main rivers of the Amazon, the Rio Marañon and Ucayali.
• Reach the lodge located on the serene Rio Yarapa within the nature reserve.
• Enjoy a delicious lunch at the lodge, prepared with fresh local ingredients.
• Embark on a boat excursion to search for and observe the unique river dolphins of the Amazon region. Keep your eyes peeled for both the pink and gray river dolphins.
• After dinner, we set off on a night excursion on foot to search for snakes, frogs, spiders, and everything else the jungle has in store for us.

Day 02

Sunrise Wildlife Viewing and Jungle Survival Skills

• We start our day with an early morning excursion.
• At around 5 a.m., we can see monkeys and many colourful birds and witness the sunrise.
• After the excursion, a rich breakfast with coffee, fruits, and more awaits us at the lodge.
• After breakfast, we set off again on foot to discover the rainforest and get a chance to observe animals.
• Gain knowledge about medicinal plants with us and learn survival skills in the jungle, for example, how to find water and food or how to build a shelter for the night.
• In the afternoon, enjoy an excursion up the river by boat, look for sloths, monkeys, parrots, and more, and be surprised by what nature offers. Next, admire two breathtaking lakes.
• At the end of the second day, we will go looking for caimans after dusk by boat.

Day 03

Giant Water Lilies, Piranha Fishing, and Return

• After breakfast, we take the boat to a nearby lake where the famous giant water lilies grow.
• Try fishing for piranhas. Piranhas are the most feared fish in the Amazon. We can taste the fish if we are lucky enough to catch a piranha.
• After lunch, our boat will be waiting for us to return to Nauta.
• We will end our Iquitos tour between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

• In the dry season, we have to walk approximately 20 minutes through the jungle to reach our lodge.
