Lake Skadar Sailing and Medieval Towns
Arrive at Lake Skadar, one of the five national parks in Montenegro and a fine destination for sightseeing.
Enjoy a boat ride with your guide to experience the lake's beauty at its best.
Stop for lunch and relish fresh lake fish specialties, such as smoked or fried carp and trout, prepared on the boat. This is optional, but highly recommended.
Visit the famous medieval town of Žabljak Crnojevića, the old capital of Montenegro's lord Ivan Crnojević. We will explore the remains of the city. Positioned on top of a hill in the middle of the swamp of Lake Skadar, this fortified town carries many stories and secrets from its past.
Proceed to the river town of Rijeka Crnojevića, an old capital of medieval Montenegro from the 15th century. Today, it represents one of the most important tourist sites in Lake Skadar National Park. Restaurants serving traditional cuisine make your visit pleasant, and the view from the old bridge adds to the feeling of returning to the period of Old Montenegro.
Head to the petite medieval fishing town of Virpazar, the starting point for most Lake Skadar excursions and a place famous for fish, wine, honey, and beautiful seafood restaurants.
Sail to a household or restaurant and taste some lake specialties.
The boat ride can take 2 to 3 hours, from March until the end of October, so you can see the most beautiful places on Lake Skadar, including small fishing villages, islands with old churches, prisons, and fortresses. If you are lucky enough, you may also enjoy views of 250 different sorts of birds, including nesting birds and those that come here just for vacation.
