Know before you go

  • Passport & visa: Make sure your passport is valid for the required period and arrange the appropriate Tanzania visa before travel if your nationality requires one.
  • Travel insurance: Comprehensive travel insurance is strongly recommended, including medical and emergency evacuation coverage.
  • Safari vehicle: Most game drives are conducted in a 4x4 safari vehicle with a pop-up roof for better wildlife viewing and photography.
  • Weather: Tanzania can have warm days and cooler mornings/evenings. Weather varies by region and season, so pack layers.
  • Wildlife: Animals are wild, and sightings cannot be guaranteed. Your guide will choose routes based on wildlife movements and current conditions.
  • Early mornings: Some of the best wildlife viewing happens early in the morning, so be prepared for early departures.
  • Walking: Some lodges and camps may involve short walks between accommodation and dining areas. Comfortable shoes are recommended.
  • Food: Lodges and camps generally provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Inform us in advance about vegetarian, vegan, allergy, or other dietary requirements.
  • Drinking water: Bring a reusable water bottle. Safe drinking water will be provided during the safari.
  • Mobile network: Network coverage can be limited in parts of Serengeti and other remote areas. Enjoy the opportunity to disconnect and experience nature.
  • Internet: Wi-Fi may be available at some lodges and camps, but it should not be expected everywhere.
  • Photography: Bring extra batteries, memory cards, and a power bank. A camera or phone with a good zoom is useful for wildlife photography.
  • Respect wildlife: Never feed animals, leave the vehicle without your guide's permission, or make loud noises around wildlife.
  • Park rules: Follow your guide's instructions and all national park and conservation-area regulations.
  • Tipping: Tips are not normally included. They are voluntary and can be given to your guide, camp staff, and other service providers for good service.
  • Packing: Bring lightweight clothing, warm layers, sunglasses, sunscreen, insect repellent, a hat, comfortable shoes, and personal toiletries.
  • Luggage: Soft-sided bags are preferable to hard suitcases because of limited storage space in safari vehicles.
  • Cash: Carry some Tanzanian shillings and/or USD for tips and personal purchases, while keeping valuables secure.
  • Safari pace: This is an adventure in nature, so expect some long drives, bumpy roads, and changing schedules depending on wildlife and road conditions.
