Day 03

Simba Camp to Kikilewa Camp

Metrics: 6-7 hrs | 10-12 km | 2,671 m -> 3,630 m
Today's trek continues into the moorland zone with increasing altitude and more open landscapes. The trail becomes steeper and more physically demanding as you ascend. If weather permits, you can enjoy stunning views of Kibo Peak ahead.

The environment changes dramatically from forest to rocky moorland with fewer trees. The hike requires steady pacing and endurance. You arrive at Kikilewa Camp in the late afternoon for rest and recovery. This campsite is exposed and cold at night, helping your body adjust to altitude before the next stage of the climb.

Upon arrival at Mawenzi Tarn, rest and enjoy lunch in one of the most scenic camps on Kilimanjaro. In the afternoon, take an acclimatization hike, gaining additional altitude before returning to camp. This activity helps your body adjust for summit success. You arrive at Kibo Hut, your final base before summit night. After arrival, rest, hydrate, and prepare your equipment for the midnight ascent. Your guide provides a detailed briefing on summit strategy and safety. An early dinner is served, and you rest early to conserve energy for the climb ahead.
