Day 02

Lemosho Gate to Forest Camp Through Rainforest

Metrics: 3-4 hrs | 6 km | 3,550 m -> 3,850 m -> 4,200 m

After breakfast, you drive to Londorossi Gate for registration before continuing to the Lemosho trailhead. The trek begins through lush rainforest filled with ancient trees, birds, and occasional wildlife such as colobus monkeys. The trail is gentle but steadily ascending through rich vegetation and humid forest air. This is a peaceful introduction to Kilimanjaro's lower slopes. You arrive at Forest Camp in the afternoon, where tents are set up and meals prepared. An evening briefing helps prepare you for the next stage of ascent into higher ecological zones.

3
Day 03

Forest Camp to Shira 1 Camp

Metrics: 3-4 hrs | 6 km | 3,550 m -> 3,850 m -> 4,200 m

You leave the rainforest behind and enter the moorland zone dominated by giant heathers and volcanic rock formations. The trail climbs steadily, with expanding views of Kibo Peak becoming more prominent. The landscape feels increasingly wild and open as altitude rises. Cool winds and thinning air mark your transition into higher elevations. The trek remains steady and scenic throughout the day. You arrive at Shira 1 Camp in the afternoon, surrounded by vast open landscapes and dramatic mountain views, making it an ideal first high-altitude campsite for acclimatization.

Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp Across the Plateau

Metrics: 3-4 hrs | 6 km | 3,550 m -> 3,850 m -> 4,200 m

Today you explore the vast Shira Plateau, one of the highest plateaus on Earth. The terrain is open, rugged, and filled with volcanic formations and sweeping views of Kibo and Mount Meru in the distance. The pace is relaxed, allowing proper acclimatization. Optional walks toward Shira Cathedral offer additional altitude exposure and panoramic photography opportunities. The atmosphere is quiet and remote, with few trekkers in sight. You arrive at Shira 2 Camp by early afternoon for rest, hydration, and preparation for the higher alpine zones ahead.

Day 05

Shira 2 Camp to Moir Hut via Lava Tower

Metrics: 3-4 hrs | 6 km | 3,550 m -> 3,850 m -> 4,200 m

You ascend gradually toward Lava Tower, a striking volcanic plug used for altitude adaptation. The terrain becomes harsh, rocky, and alpine desert-like, with strong winds and thinner oxygen levels. After lunch and acclimatization at high altitude, you descend into Moir Valley beneath Lent Hills. This remote campsite offers solitude and stunning views across the mountain landscape. Optional walks in the afternoon provide additional acclimatization while showcasing dramatic scenery stretching toward the Kenyan plains.

The trek continues through the remote northern slopes across wide alpine desert landscapes with minimal vegetation. The route is quiet and rarely used, offering a true wilderness experience with expansive views in all directions. Gentle ascents and descents characterize the day as you circle Kilimanjaro's northern face. The atmosphere is peaceful and isolated, with strong acclimatization benefits. You continue along the northern circuit through ridges, valleys, and expansive alpine desert terrain. The scenery is raw, untouched, and extremely remote, offering a deep wilderness experience. The gradual descent supports acclimatization while moving you toward the eastern side of the mountain. The trail remains quiet, with few trekkers, enhancing the sense of isolation. You arrive at Third Cave Camp in the afternoon, where you rest and enjoy dinner in a peaceful high-altitude environment surrounded by dramatic volcanic landscapes.

Day 08

Third Cave Camp to School Hut

Metrics: 3-4 hrs | 6 km | 3,550 m -> 3,850 m -> 4,200 m

A steady ascent takes you into the barren saddle between Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. The terrain becomes increasingly rocky, exposed, and lunar-like as altitude increases. Although the distance is short, the climb is physically demanding due to thin air. The landscape is vast and dramatic, offering surreal volcanic scenery. You reach School Hut in the early afternoon, where you rest, hydrate, and prepare for the midnight summit attempt after an early dinner and guide briefing.
