Day 01

Eastern Serbia's Fortresses and Archaeological Treasures

  • Pickup from your hotel in Belgrade at 8 am. The tour heads to Eastern Serbia and includes the most interesting historical attractions of this region.

  • Stop at Smederevo Fortress, the biggest lowland fortress in Europe and the last stronghold of medieval Serbia.

  • Continue the history lesson at the Viminacium archaeological site.

  • Explore the remains of its mausoleum, amphitheatre, and baths while listening to the story of the ancient city, the capital of the Roman province of Moesia Superior, and the military camp located in this area during the Roman era.

  • See the mammoth park with a spectacular skeleton of a five-million-year-old mammoth.

  • Visit Golubac Fortress, located at the entrance to the Iron Gate, the longest gorge in Europe.

  • Walk along the Danube River and enjoy beautiful views of the river.

  • Continue to Lepenski Vir, an archaeological site with remains of the oldest urban settlement in Europe. The site consists of one large settlement with several satellite villages. It is optional to walk around the site, watch a short film about its excavation, and take a virtual tour using computers.

  • Stop at the ethno complex Kapetan Mišin Breg, with a beautiful viewpoint over the Danube River.

  • Arrive back in Belgrade at approximately 8 pm. Drop-off at your hotel.
