What's Not Included

  • Park fee: US$20 per person

What to bring

  • High-Quality Poncho: The mist from the falls acts like a torrential downpour. You can rent basic plastic ponchos at the Mosi-oa-Tunya park gate, but a sturdy, reusable poncho with a hood will keep you much drier.

  • Heavy-Duty Dry Bag: A waterproof dry bag is non-negotiable if you are carrying a DSLR camera, lenses, or external battery packs. The spray will penetrate standard backpacks.

  • Waterproof Phone Pouch: A clear, lanyard-style pouch allows you to take photos and videos on the slippery Knife Edge Bridge without ruining your phone.

  • Water Shoes or Sturdy Sandals: The walkways get incredibly slick, and standard flip-flops offer no traction. Bring strapped water shoes (like Chacos or Tevas) or lightweight trail runners that dry quickly.

  • A Change of Clothes: Keep a dry set of clothes and a small travel towel in your vehicle or a locker so you can change immediately after walking the trails.

  • High-SPF Sunscreen & Lip Balm: The African sun is intense, especially when reflecting off the water.

  • Wide-Brimmed Hat: Choose one with a chin strap so it doesn't blow into the gorge when you are looking over the edge.

  • Polarized Sunglasses: These will cut down the intense glare from the water and spray.

  • Health & Safety

  • DEET-Based Insect Repellent: Livingstone is a high-risk malaria zone. Apply strong repellent regularly, especially around dawn and dusk.

  • Personal Medication: Bring any prescribed malaria prophylactics, as well as basic first-aid items like anti-diarrheal medication and rehydration salts.

  • Reusable Water Bottle: Staying hydrated is vital in the heat, but avoid buying single-use plastic bottles to help keep the park clean.

Know before you go

  • Experiencing Victoria Falls from the Zambian side puts you right in the middle of the action. Located within Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park near the vibrant town of Livingstone, the Zambian side is famous for offering a highly immersive, closer, and more adventurous perspective of the falls.

  • Operating hours: The park is open daily from 06:00 to 18:00.

  • The Zambian side is highly seasonal. Because this side sits slightly higher topographically, it dries up significantly faster than the Zimbabwean side. By October and November, the flow drops sharply, often leaving you looking at bare canyon rock instead of roaring water. If you travel during these months, you will want to cross the border to the Zimbabwean side to see a steady flow.
