The itinerary

Day 01

Yangon to Kyaiktiyo and Golden Rock Pagoda

  • Arrive in Yangon and then drive to Kyaiktiyo, the basic foothill camp of the Kyaiktiyo mountain range.

  • Then climb up to Yathetaung, a sub-camp, by light truck.

  • Continue climbing from Yathetaung to the hilltop on foot, about 2 km away, with a 1-hour walk uphill.

  • Visit Kyaik Hti Yoe (Golden Rock) Pagoda. When you reach there, you will see the Golden Rock appearing as if it is about to fall down. If you stare at it closely, it may seem to be moving. Only men can go up to the Golden Rock itself. If you touch and lift the Golden Rock, you will feel as though it is going to collapse on you. If you put bamboo strips under the gap of the Golden Rock, they may curve and sometimes stay straight.

  • After taking in the amazing and interesting facts of the Golden Rock, visit the colorful market.

After that, go back to your hotel and stay overnight at the hotel.

Thanlyin Excursion and Yangon River Sights

  • After breakfast at the hotel, enjoy a day-return sightseeing trip to Thanlyin across the Yangon River on Thanlyin Bridge. Thanlyin was Lower Burma's main trading port in the 18th century and an old Portuguese settlement. It is home to two splendid pagodas, Kyaik Khauk Pagoda and Kyaik Hmaw Wun Ye Lai Pagoda, situated on the island.

  • Firstly, visit Kyaik Khauk Pagoda, the highest point from where you can venerate the Great Shwedagon Pagoda.

  • Meet local people at the Kyauktan market and then proceed to Kyaik Hmaw Wun Ye Lai Pagoda by boat. You can feed big fish at the pagoda.

  • Return to Yangon to visit Botataung Pagoda, built in AD 997. Legend has it that 1000 officers brought two hairs of the Buddha to this hollow pagoda with zigzag corridors and walls completely covered in mosaic mirror glass.

  • Next, proceed to Nan Thida Jetty and watch the traffic on the Yangon River.

  • Overnight at the hotel in Yangon.
