Morning Game Drive and White Rhino Tracking Walk

06:30 AM - 09:30 AM: Morning Safari Game Drive
- Activity: Enter the Wildlife Sector early, when temperatures are cool and wildlife is most active. Traverse the riverine forests and mopane woodlands alongside the upper Zambezi River.
- What to expect: You will likely spot herds of plains zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, impalas, and elephants moving along their migration routes. Because the park is completely predator-free, the animals are notably relaxed.
09:30 AM - 10:30 AM: Guided White Rhino Tracking Walk
- Activity: Link up with an armed Department of National Parks wildlife ranger inside the game area. Disembark from your vehicle for a thrilling, close-up tracking walk to see Zambia's only highly protected white rhinos on foot.

What to bring

Neutral colors: wear khaki, beige, brown, or olive green. Avoid bright white, which is highly visible.
Closed-toe shoes: sturdy hiking boots or trainers with good grip are required. You will be walking through thorny scrub, sharp twigs, and uneven soil.
Sun protection: pack a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and high-SPF sunscreen.
Insect repellent: apply a strong DEET-based repellent before the walk to ward off ticks and flies.
Camera gear: bring a camera with a decent zoom lens. While you get remarkably close, you cannot walk right up to touch the animals.

Know before you go

Before your walking safari in Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, you must agree to follow strict wilderness rules managed by your Zambia Department of National Parks and Wildlife rangers:
- Walk in single file: never bunch up or stray to the sides. Walking in a neat line makes the human group appear as one predictable organism to wildlife.
- Maintain absolute silence: speak only in low whispers when approaching the rhinos. Sudden loud noises can startle them into a defensive charge.
- Never run: if an animal moves toward you, running triggers its predatory or defensive chase instinct. You must stand your ground as instructed by your armed scout.
Obey the scout's signals: hand gestures are used to communicate in the bush. Learn the signals for "stop," "crouch," and "retreat" before leaving the vehicle.
