Hidden Villages, Monastery Heritage and Lake Skadar Life

Step away from Montenegro's well-known tourist routes and discover a quieter, more authentic side of Lake Skadar - combining history, local traditions, spectacular scenery, and a hidden fishermen's village that still preserves the character of old Montenegro.

Your experience begins with pickup from your accommodation, followed by a comfortable drive into the countryside. As we leave the busy areas behind, our local guide will introduce you to Montenegro's history, culture, and traditions, sharing local stories and legends along the way.

Brčeli Monastery

Our first stop is Brčeli Monastery, a peaceful historic sanctuary surrounded by the quiet landscapes of the old Montenegrin countryside.

We take time to discover the monastery's history and cultural heritage while enjoying the tranquillity of a place far removed from the usual tourist routes.

Rijeka Crnojevića

We continue along scenic local roads through hidden villages and traditional countryside until reaching Rijeka Crnojevića, once an important political and trading centre of Montenegro.

We discover its connection with the Crnojević dynasty, its historic role as a trading port linking the interior with Lake Skadar and the Adriatic, and the famous Danilo's Bridge, one of the settlement's most recognizable landmarks.

From here, we continue to Pavlova Strana, where the dramatic horseshoe-shaped bend of the Rijeka Crnojevića River creates one of Montenegro's most breathtaking viewpoints.

Karuč - A Hidden Fishermen's Village

We then leave the better-known sights behind and continue to Karuč, a tiny traditional fishermen's village tucked away on the shores of Lake Skadar.

Walking along its cobblestone paths between the homes of local families, we discover the history and traditions of this remarkable little settlement, whose peaceful setting and timeless appearance can take your breath away.

Karuč also has a royal connection - it was once the winter residence of Prince-Bishop Petar I Petrović Njegoš, adding another fascinating chapter to its history.

The village is surrounded by stories and legends, including local tales of sunken boats beneath the waters of Lake Skadar, passed down through generations.

You will also have free time to enjoy the flavours of the lake. Depending on your preference, you can try traditional local dishes such as fish soup, carp, eel, or local freshwater fish, prepared in the traditional style, accompanied by homemade wine and the local cheese for which this area is known.

A Different Side of Montenegro

This private experience is designed for travellers who want more than the usual sightseeing - combining history, culture, nature, local gastronomy, and authentic village life at a relaxed pace.

Rather than simply visiting Lake Skadar, we invite you to slow down, meet its landscapes and stories, and discover the Montenegro that still belongs to the locals.
