Day 03

Coonoor Attractions on the Way to Ooty

  • After breakfast, embark on a morning drive to Ooty, visiting Coonoor's attractions for an activity-packed day. Coonoor is the second-largest hill station in the Nilgiris and has many viewpoints around it.
  • Your first stop is the graceful Ketti Valley View, a tourist spot located on the Ooty-Coonoor Road (NH 67) that offers a spectacular view of the Ketti Valley and is an important tourist centre in Ooty. Valley View is considered the Switzerland of Southern India. The valley extends from the Mysore plateau to the Coimbatore plains and is one of the largest valleys in the world.
  • The next stop is Wellington. Its 18-hole golf course is one of the most beautiful golf courses in the world.
  • Sim's Park is the third attraction along the route. It lies on the way to Dolphin's Nose from Coonoor and has more than 1,000 plant species. Every year in May, a fruit and vegetable show is organized in this park.
  • Another viewpoint in Coonoor frequently visited by travellers is Dolphin's Nose. The view from this place is breathtaking. People say that the tip of the peak resembles a dolphin's nose, which led to the name. Telescopes are available to see Catherine Falls, Black Thunder in Mettupalayam and tribal huts. It is also another place for people who love photography.
  • The last stop before reaching the hotel is Lamb's Rock, another lovely viewpoint that is ideal for all types of photographers. It is around 9 km from Coonoor.

Day 04

Ooty Sightseeing and Wildlife Excursions

  • Head to Kamaraj Sagar Dam, Shooting Point and Pykara Lake. Pykara Lake and Pykara Falls are around 19 km from the town, but the road is terrible, so you cannot drive at more than 10 km/h. A word of caution: the rocks are very slippery near the falls, so be very careful.
  • Visit Mukurthi National Park, located in the northwest corner of Tamil Nadu in the Western Ghats mountain range of South India. It is home to Nilgiri Tahr and endangered wildlife, including the Royal Bengal tiger and Asian elephant.
  • Needle Rock View Point is 10 km along the Gudalur-Ooty Road. A panoramic view of the Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary and Gudalur town far below is a visual treat from this viewpoint.
  • Frog Hill View Point is 11 km on the way along the Gudalur-Ooty Road and offers a view of the frog-shaped hill.
  • Mudumalai Tiger Reserve and National Park lies on the northwestern Nilgiri Hills (Blue Mountains), about 36 km from Ooty. To its north are Bandipur National Park and Nagarhole National Park, and to its west is Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary. Along the southern corner lie Mukurthi National Park and Silent Valley National Park. These parks, sanctuaries and adjoining reserve forests cover over 3,300 sq km of forest and support a population of 1,800-2,300 elephants. This protected area is an ideal home for several endangered and vulnerable species, such as the Indian elephant, Bengal tiger, gaur and Indian leopard. There is a high diversity of animal life in the sanctuary, with about 50 species of fish, 21 species of amphibians, 34 species of reptiles, 227 species of birds and 55 species of mammals. Return to the hotel in Ooty for dinner and rest.
