Discover the cultural heart of Flores on a 3-day overland journey from Labuan Bajo to the misty highlands of Wae Rebo, home to iconic cone-shaped traditional houses and warm village hospitality. Travel overland to Denge, continue by motorbike taxi to the trailhead, and trek through dense forest to reach this remote village, where you will spend the night in a traditional house. Continue to Liang Bua "Hobbit" Cave to learn about its extraordinary archaeological story and visit the small museum with fossil replicas and artifacts. On the final day, stop at Cara Village for a short hike to the striking Spider Web Ricefields (Lodok), a powerful symbol of Manggarai land division, before returning to Labuan Bajo.

The itinerary

Day 01

Labuan Bajo to Wae Rebo Village Trek

Pick up from your accommodation in Labuan Bajo, then depart by car to Wae Rebo, a drive of about 4 hours.
Along the way, stop for breaks and photo opportunities.
Head to Denge Village, then take a motorbike taxi to the trekking start point.
Trek from the Wae Lomba River up to Wae Rebo Village through dense forest for about 3 hours.
In the afternoon, enjoy a walking tour around the village and interact with the local community in Wae Rebo.
Overnight in one of the traditional houses in Wae Rebo.

Day 02

Wae Rebo to Liang Bua Hobbit Cave and Ruteng

After breakfast in Wae Rebo Village, trek back down to the Wae Lomba River.
Then take a motorbike taxi to the car parking area.
Drive for about 4 hours to Liang Bua Hobbit Cave.
Visit the cave and hear the explanation about its history and significance. Then visit the mini museum in front of the cave to see some replicas of Flores Hobbit fossils and a collection of artifacts.
Drive to Ruteng and check in to your accommodation for an overnight stay.

Day 03

Ruteng, Spider Web Ricefields, and Return to Labuan Bajo

Pick up from your accommodation, then leave for Labuan Bajo by car, a journey of around 4 hours.
Visit Cara Village for a short trek to the hilltop, where you will watch the spectacular view and unique shape of the rice fields known as the Spider Web Ricefields, or locally called "Lodok." This is the traditional way the Manggarai people divide the land to give equal-sized plots, and it has strong cultural meaning.
Continue driving to Labuan Bajo with a few stops along the way.
Arrive in Labuan Bajo in the afternoon, then drop off at your accommodation.
