Old Batavia, Monas and Jakarta's Interfaith Landmarks
- Morning - Old Batavia: 8:30-11:00 AM
- Kota Tua (Old Town): Start early to beat the heat and crowds, then rent one of the colorful bikes to ride around Fatahillah Square.
- Jakarta History Museum: Visit the restored Dutch colonial city hall. Entry is just a few thousand rupiah, and 30-45 minutes is enough.
- Midday - Lunch & landmarks: 11:30 AM-3:00 PM
- Café Batavia: Stop at this iconic colonial-era café right on the square, a good place for lunch with a view.
- Monas (National Monument): See Jakarta's 132 m obelisk in Merdeka Square, and go up for a panoramic view if the line is short.
- Afternoon - Faith & architecture: 3:00-4:30 PM
- Istiqlal Mosque: Visit Southeast Asia's largest mosque. Dress modestly; robes are provided.
- Jakarta Cathedral: See the neo-Gothic cathedral literally across the street, a striking interfaith pairing.
- Evening - Dinner & shopping: 6:00-9:00 PM
- Sate Khas Senayan, Menteng: Enjoy a comfortable spot for a proper Indonesian dinner, with dishes such as satay, gado-gado, and rawon.
- Grand Indonesia: Cap the night with shopping, dessert, or a rooftop view.
Practical notes:
- Traffic is heavy midday - a car/driver or Gojek/Grab is far more reliable than walking between zones.
- Kota Tua and Monas/Istiqlal/Cathedral are two separate clusters about 20-30 min apart by car.
- Bring cash for small entry fees (museum, Monas top) and dress modestly for the mosque.
