7-Day Bhutan Cultural Tour through Paro, Punakha and Tiger's Nest

Arrive at Paro International Airport, where your guide will warmly welcome you before beginning the scenic drive to Bhutan's capital, Thimphu. Along the way, stop at the historic Iron Bridge built by the legendary Tibetan engineer Thangthong Gyalpo, one of Bhutan's oldest suspension bridges.

Upon arrival in Thimphu, check in to your hotel and take some time to freshen up. In the evening, visit the magnificent Tashichho Dzong, which opens to visitors from 5:30 PM. This impressive fortress-monastery serves as the seat of Bhutan's government and the summer residence of the Chief Abbot.

Begin your sightseeing tour of Thimphu with a visit to the iconic Buddha Dordenma Statue, one of the world's largest seated Buddha statues, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Thimphu Valley. Continue to the Sangaygang Viewpoint, a popular spot known for its spectacular views of the city and the surrounding mountains.

 Next, visit the Motithang Takin Preserve, home to Bhutan's unique national animal, the Takin. Continue to the National Memorial Chorten, one of Bhutan's most revered Buddhist monuments, where locals gather daily for prayers and meditation.

 After lunch, you may visit the Simply Bhutan Museum, an interactive living museum that offers an authentic insight into Bhutanese culture, traditional architecture, customs and rural lifestyle. Guests can also participate in hands-on cultural experiences and traditional games.

You may also visit the BBS Tower Viewpoint for panoramic views of Thimphu Valley, followed by the city's famous traffic junction, where traffic is uniquely managed by a police officer without the use of traffic lights— A distinctive feature of Bhutan's capital. Drive to Punakha, one of Bhutan's most picturesque valleys.

En route, stop at the scenic Dochula Pass (3,100 m) to visit the famous 108 Druk Wangyal Chortens. Weather permitting, enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the snow-capped Himalayan mountain range.

 Continue your journey to Chimi Lhakhang Temple, also known as the Temple of Fertility. Enjoy a pleasant walk through the beautiful countryside and rice fields to reach this sacred monastery, which is dedicated to the revered Buddhist saint Lama Drukpa Kunley, popularly known as the "Divine Madman."

After lunch (optional), proceed to visit the magnificent Punakha Dzong, one of Bhutan's most beautiful and historically significant fortresses. Situated at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers, the dzong is renowned for its impressive Bhutanese architecture and rich cultural heritage.

 Later, enjoy a walk across the Punakha Suspension Bridge, one of the longest suspension bridges in Bhutan, offering spectacular views of the river and surrounding valley.

Drive to the beautiful Phobjikha Valley (Gangtey Valley), one of Bhutan's most scenic glacial valleys, renowned for its pristine landscapes and rich biodiversity.

 Upon arrival, visit the historic Gangtey Monastery (Gangtey Goemba), an important Nyingma Buddhist monastery dating back to the 17th century. Perched on a hilltop, the monastery offers spectacular views of the expansive Phobjikha Valley.

 Continue with a leisurely walk along the Gangtey Nature Trail, one of Bhutan's most scenic hiking trails. The easy walk passes through pine forests, traditional Bhutanese villages, open meadows, and offers breathtaking views of the valley.

 After lunch (optional), visit the Black-Necked Crane Information Centre, where you can learn about the endangered Black-Necked Cranes that migrate from Tibet to Phobjikha Valley during the winter months (typically from late October to February). The center also features informative exhibits, observation points, and educational displays about the region's unique ecosystem.

Continue to the iconic Nyamai Zam (Traditional Wooden Bridge), located beside the dzong, where you can admire its unique craftsmanship and capture memorable photographs.

Start with a visit to the iconic Tiger's Nest Monastery (Taktsang Monastery), Bhutan's most famous landmark, dramatically perched on a cliff approximately 900 meters above the Paro Valley. After the hike, enjoy optional lunch at a local restaurant.

In the afternoon, visit the historic Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan's oldest and most sacred temples, built in the 7th century by the Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo.

Later, proceed to the Paro Airport View point, where you can witness spectacular views of Paro International Airport, renowned as one of the world's most challenging and scenic airports.
