A Village Frozen in Time: Reaching Khinalig, located at an altitude of over 2,200 meters, feels like stepping through a portal into the past. Guests will see ancient stone houses built in terraces on top of each other, where the roof of one house serves as the courtyard for the neighbor above.

The Thin Mountain Air: At over 2,200 meters, the air is incredibly crisp and pure, but slightly thinner. A short walk uphill will get their hearts pumping!

Know before you go

1. Dress in Layers (The Weather is Unpredictable)
The Temperature Drop: While it might be warm and sunny in Baku or Guba city, Khinalig sits at over 2,200 meters. The temperature there can be 10°C to 15°C cooler.
What to bring: Bring a windproof or waterproof jacket, a light fleece or sweater, and sunglasses. Weather in the mountains can change from sunny to windy or foggy in a matter of minutes.
2. Wear Comfortable, Sturdy Shoes
Khinalig is an ancient village with steep, uneven stone pathways and dirt tracks.
No heels, slides, or slick-soled shoes. A good pair of sneakers, trainers, or light hiking boots with good grip is highly recommended.
3. Bring Cash (Azerbaijani Manat - AZN)
There are no ATMs or card terminals in Khinalig or along the mountain pass.
If you want to buy local handmade wool socks, mountain honey, herbal teas, or leave a tip, you will need physical cash. Small bills are best.
4. Prepare for Winding Roads
The road from Guba to Khinalig is incredibly scenic, but it is a steep, twisting mountain road with lots of bends.
If you are prone to motion sickness, we highly recommend taking your motion sickness medication about 30 minutes before the mountain drive begins.
5. Charge Your Devices and Bring a Power Bank
The landscapes are breathtaking - you will be taking photos and videos constantly.
Cold mountain air can drain phone batteries much faster than usual, so bringing a fully charged power bank is a smart move.
6. Network Coverage is Limited
Mobile signal can be patchy or completely unavailable in the deep canyons and some parts of the village.
Embrace it as a perfect opportunity to unplug and connect with nature.
7. Respect Local Customs
Khinalig is a conservative, traditional community. Guests are kindly asked to dress modestly, avoid very short shorts or revealing tops, and always ask for permission before taking photos of local people, especially women and children.
