Day 01

Arrival at Camp Moremi via Xakanaxa Airstrip

  • By Air (Primary Route): Fly by light aircraft charter from Maun Airport (MUB), approximately 25-40 minutes, or from Kasane Airport (BBK).

  • Airstrip Arrival: You will land at Xakanaxa Airstrip.

  • Ground Transfer: A 25-minute open-air 4x4 game drive transfers you from the airstrip to Camp Moremi.

  • By Water: Unique boat transfers are available if you are connecting directly from its sister property, Camp Okavango.

  • Strict Luggage Restrictions: Because of the light aircraft infrastructure, strict baggage rules apply to air arrivals.

    • Weight Limit: Maximum 20 kg per person.

    • Bag Type: Bags must be completely soft-sided, without wheels or rigid frames, such as hard suitcases.

Game Drives, Boat Safaris, and Birdwatching

Camp Moremi offers a range of activities focused on exploring the uniqueness of the Moremi Game Reserve.

Game Drives: Morning and afternoon game drives explore the many different ecosystems that the Moremi Game Reserve has to offer.

Motorised Boat Safaris: Explore the Xakanaxa Lagoon and its surrounding channels by boat for a chance to enjoy the picturesque waters of the Okavango Delta in hard-bottom aluminium boats. The boats are equipped with comfortable seats, a foldaway canvas roof, and life jackets.

Bird Watching: The majestic Fish Eagle and vivid Malachite Kingfisher are frequently seen, and even the rare Pel's Fishing Owl makes an occasional appearance, to the delight of guides and guests alike.

Departure to Maun by Scenic Bush Plane

Departure by Air (Primary Route)

  • Camp Departure: A 25-minute game drive transfers you from Camp Moremi to Xakanaxa Airstrip.

  • The Flight: A 25- to 40-minute scenic bush-plane flight, commonly operated by Safari Air or Mack Air, brings you directly to Maun Airport (MUB).

  • Luggage Reminder: The strict 20 kg maximum limit for soft-sided, frameless bags remains in effect for the return flight.

What to bring

  • Warm layers: Fleece jacket, windbreaker, beanie, scarf, and gloves for cold, open-air morning game drives.

  • Sun protection: Wide-brimmed sun hat, UV-blocking sunglasses, and lightweight, long-sleeved linen shirts.

  • Footwear: Sturdy, closed-toe walking shoes or trail runners; heavy hiking boots are not necessary.

  • Camera equipment: DSLR or mirrorless camera with a telephoto zoom lens, with a minimum 200 mm-400 mm recommended.

  • Binoculars: A dedicated pair, ideally 8x42 or 10x42 magnification, for optimal wildlife and bird viewing.

  • Charging kit: Spare camera batteries, memory cards, and a power bank, as there are no charging points in the safari vehicles.

  • Plug adapters: Type M (three round pins) and Type G (UK three-prong) adapters for the tented suites.

  • Insect repellent: High-concentration DEET or Picaridin spray, especially for evening water safaris.

  • Sun care: High-SPF, water-resistant sunscreen and soothing lip balm.

  • Access to Camp Moremi: Camp Moremi is accessed by light aircraft transfer or by road from Maun, 140 km on sandy roads suitable for 4WD vehicles only, approximately a four-hour drive.

  • Airstrip transfer: Once at the airstrip, there is a road transfer of approximately 25 minutes to camp.

  • Airstrip details:

    • Camp GPS coordinates: S 19 11 20.50 E 23 24 34.05

    • Length: 1 000 m

    • License: CAAB-licensed Class B airstrip accommodating aircraft up to MAUW 5700 kg (Cessna Caravan).

    • Private charters: Prior consent from Desert & Delta Safaris is required before landing private aircraft on the airstrip.

  • Please note: Drone use is strictly prohibited due to government regulations.

  • Wi-Fi: Wi-Fi is available in the rooms only. It operates via remote satellite link-up, and constant connectivity is not guaranteed.
