  • Amenities: Traditional oil lamp rental at Londa Cave.

What's Not Included

Breakfast and dinner are not included.

What to bring

  • Technical Trail Footwear (Mandatory): The terrain across Toraja's heritage sites features uneven ground, damp mountain clay, steep hillside paths, and mossy stone steps. Sturdy, non-slip hiking shoes or trail running sneakers with deep rubber traction lugs are mandatory. Casual urban sandals, smooth-soled lifestyle shoes, or heels are strictly prohibited for your safety.
  • Highland Climate Layering: Rantepao experiences warm, humid daytime temperatures ranging from 26°C to 30°C, but drops sharply into chilly alpine conditions at night (16°C to 19°C) due to the high elevation. Pack lightweight, breathable daytime clothes such as cotton or moisture-wicking shirts, but a warm jacket, windbreaker, or fleece sweater is essential for evening outings and early morning sunrise excursions.
  • Rain & Microclimate Protection: Highland weather changes rapidly. Always pack a compact travel umbrella or a high-quality packable raincoat (rain jacket) in your daypack.
  • Respectful Funeral Attire: In the event that your itinerary aligns with a local Rambu Solo' ceremony, please pack modest, solid dark-colored or pure black clothing with tops that cover your shoulders and pants or skirts that extend well below the knees.
  • Water Activity Outfit: Bring a dedicated set of lightweight, quick-drying activewear, athletic shirts, or swimwear. Avoid heavy fabrics like denim or thick cotton.
  • Secure Water Shoes: Water shoes, neoprene booties, or outdoor sandals featuring secure heel straps that lock tightly to your feet are recommended. Loose flip-flops are strictly not permitted on the river.
  • Dry Change of Clothes & Towel: Bring a full set of clean, dry clothes, fresh undergarments, and a travel towel to use at the rafting facility's private shower stations immediately after the trip.
  • Waterproof Dry Bag: Bring a premium, roll-top dry bag (10L-20L capacity) if you plan to carry mobile phones, cameras, or valuable personal items onto the raft.
  • Tropical Sun & Bug Protection: Pack a high-efficiency insect repellent, with a formula containing DEET or Picaridin recommended, and broad-spectrum sunblock (SPF 30+ or higher).
  • Personal Medical Kit: Bring a customized travel first-aid kit containing personal blister pads (moleskin), antacids, motion sickness pills, and a full supply of your specific international prescription medications. Please note that highland pharmacies in Rantepao are well-stocked but primarily carry local Indonesian generic brands.
  • Hygiene Essentials: Bring a pack of biodegradable wet wipes, pocket-sized hand sanitizer, and a small pack of facial tissues for daily use on the road.

Know before you go

  • The Cash-Based Highland Economy: While major luxury resorts in Rantepao accept international credit cards, 95% of daily transactions in Tana Toraja remain strictly cash-based in Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). Local artisan weaving shops, traditional vendors at the Bolu livestock market, local cave lamp rentals, and small village cafes do not accept digital wallets or credit cards. You should withdraw adequate IDR cash from secure ATMs, such as Bank Mandiri or BNI, in Rantepao town center before your daily tours begin.
  • Ride-Hailing Limitations: On-demand digital transport apps operate officially within the immediate town limits of Rantepao, but vehicular availability drops to zero as you head toward remote ancestral valleys and heritage sites. Having your private Toyota Innova and dedicated driver secured for the entirety of this itinerary is a vital logistical necessity to ensure you travel without unexpected delays.
  • Absolute Sanctity of Human Remains: The cliff-face tombs at Lemo, the cave catacombs at Londa, and the tree graves at Kambira are active, deeply revered spiritual resting places. You must not touch, move, rearrange, or pocket any bones, skulls, ancient wooden coffins, or offerings such as coins, cigarettes, and clothing found at these sites. Even minor displacement of these items constitutes a severe violation of local customary law (Adat).
  • Rambu Solo' (Funeral Dress Code): If your itinerary aligns with a local Rambu Solo' (Grand Funeral Ceremony), attending is a prestigious honor. However, you should wear modest, respectful clothing in solid dark colors or pure black with your shoulders and knees fully covered. Avoid bright or fluorescent colors, particularly vivid red, as red signifies joy and celebration, which local families may view as a direct insult to the grieving household.
  • Dietary Adjustments & Hygiene: Because daily meals are excluded from this package to grant you total culinary freedom, your private guide will steer you toward the most reputable, highly hygienic establishments in the region. If you maintain strict dietary restrictions such as Vegetarian, Vegan, Halal, or severe Gluten allergies, brief your guide each morning so lunch stops can be planned at restaurants capable of safely accommodating your needs.
  • Language Options: The listed rate covers an English-speaking tour guide. Other languages such as French, German, Spanish, and others are available at an additional charge and are subject to availability.
