9-Day Wildlife Safari in Tanzania with Makarot Hike and Migration

• Depart on your safari after breakfast. The tarmac road follows the line of ancient volcanoes to the Rift Valley. Here, nestled at the base of the rift wall, lies Lake Manyara National Park, a veritable biodiversity hotspot. Despite being a small reserve, it is home to at least six different habitats, ranging from the lake to thick groundwater forest, each with its own flora and fauna. Made famous by pioneering elephant research and numerous film scenes, this is a good start to your safari.

• Head to Ngorongoro Farm House for an overnight stay on a full-board basis.

• Make an early start in the morning after breakfast and go on game drives.

• Reach your next accommodation in time for lunch.

• In the afternoon, descend into the 2,000-foot-deep caldera, home to over 20,000 large mammals, including the rare black rhino.

• Go on another round of game drives before returning to the farmhouse.

• Begin the hiking adventure while the guide provides insights into the scenery and the Maasai way of life. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area is a mixed land-use reserve where Maasai people live alongside the wildlife. The goal of this hike is to reach the summit of Volcano Makarot.

• Head into acacia woodland for the final hiking section of the adventure.

• Hike or drive to the next camp.

• Relax and enjoy a beautiful sundowner. This mobile camp moves seasonally to follow the migration and will be your base for the next nights.

• Relax and explore the surrounding areas of the Serengeti. See the migration of the wildebeests and zebras.

• Go for a session of bird watching.
