Day 01

Hike Through Forest to Machame Hut

  • Hike to Machame Hut for about 5 hours through the forest.

Day 02

Steep Ascent to Shira Camp

  • This day is steep, with a short hike and a bit of scrambling over about 5 hours up to Shira Camp.

Day 03

Climb High and Descend to Barranco Camp

  • Hike up to 15,000 feet, then descend to Barranco Camp at 13,100 feet over about 6 hours.

Day 04

Acclimatisation Hike in Barranco

  • Take a hike and learn about high-altitude plant adaptations in Barranco.

Day 05

Scramble the Barranco Wall to Karanga

  • In the morning, scramble along the Barranco Wall.

  • The hike takes about 4 hours to reach Karanga at 13,400 feet.

Day 06

Short Hike to Barafu Camp

  • Get to Barafu Camp early.

  • Sleep early, then wake up at 12:00 am for the summit attempt.

Day 07

Summit Day and Descent to Mweka Camp

  • After the summit, descend to Barafu for brunch.

  • After brunch, hike to Mweka Camp. This will be a long day.

Day 08

Descend to Mweka Gate and Return to Arusha

  • Hike for 3 hours to Mweka Gate.

  • From the gate, say goodbye to the porters, then drive to Arusha.
