Echmiadzin, meaning "The Descent of the Only Begotten Son," is the ancient capital of Armenia. As per legend, Jesus Christ himself descended from heaven and chose this spot for a church to be built.
Echmiadzin Cathedral is the religious seat of Armenia. This is also the only church in Armenia that has 7 domes inside. Once you walk in, there is a treasury where you can find a great number of relics.
Zvartnots Temple, though in ruins, exhibits impressive architecture and also an awe-inspiring museum. Zvartnots, or "Celestial Angels," has a 7th-century cathedral, which was constructed in an aisled tetraconch shape by the order of Catholicos Nerses.
Though now in ruins, both attractions continue to speak of the architectural expertise of the craftsmen in the Armavir Province of Armenia.
