Day 01

Belgrade's Yugoslav History and Tito Landmarks

Start the tour in Kalemegdan, at the site of the Military Museum. The museum displays guns and weapons from the Roman period to the NATO bombing in 1999. It is a unique place where visitors can learn about the history of Belgrade. This is also the place connected with Tito's Partisan movement during the Second World War.
After an introduction to Belgrade, see the bunker built for the Yugoslav military during the period when relations between Tito and Stalin became strained.
Take a sightseeing tour of the White Palace, where Tito and later President Slobodan Milosevic lived. It was also the former residence of the Karadjordjevic dynasty.

Note: Kalemegdan is a pedestrian zone and walking area. A 10-15 minute walk is required to reach the Military Museum and Bunker.
During Josip Broz Tito's governance, Yugoslavia had 6 countries: Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia; and autonomous regions: Kosovo, Metohija, and Vojvodina. Yugoslavia had the fourth-strongest military in Europe. Tito was a controversial person with an interesting private life. His funeral was one of the biggest in the 20th century.
