10-Day Kenya and Tanzania Wildlife Safari with Masai Mara and Serengeti

• After breakfast, get picked up from your hotel at 07:30 am and drive west to Masai Mara Game Reserve, with lunch en route, arriving in time for an evening game drive.

• Masai Mara Game Reserve is Kenya's finest wildlife sanctuary. Including migrants, well over 450 species of animals have been recorded here. Although July, August, and September are the months when the Mara plains are filled with migrating wildebeest and zebra, there is also resident wildlife year-round. The famous Masai tribesmen live very close to the game reserve. Dinner and overnight at the camp, with hot showers and flush toilets.

• After breakfast, proceed for a full day of game viewing within the reserve. The landscape here is scenic savannah grassland on rolling hills. The reserve is the best park for game in Kenya, as it has an extensive road and track network that allows for close-range viewing and photography. Break for your picnic lunch at the hippo pool while looking out for hippos and crocodiles.

• After an early morning game drive, drive back to the camp for breakfast. After a leisurely breakfast, depart the Mara region for Nakuru, with lunch en route and scenic views of Mt Longonot and Lake Naivasha from afar along the main highway.

• Arrive in the evening.

• Depart Nairobi by shuttle to Arusha, arriving tentatively at 10:30 am at the Namanga border for immigration procedures, then continue on to Arusha to arrive in the afternoon.

• Check in to the hotel booked on a bed and breakfast basis. Rest and relax for the remainder of the day as you prepare for the next day's safari.

• Pick up from Arusha and transfer to Lake Manyara National Park.

• Arrive in time for lunch at the lodge and, after lunch, head into Lake Manyara National Park for an afternoon game drive. This national park is one of Tanzania's most dramatically located wildlife areas, consisting of a massive but shallow soda lake covering two-thirds of the park, set at the foot of the Great Rift Valley's western escarpment. The park's varied habitat attracts a wide variety of animals, including one of Africa's largest concentrations of elephants, Lake Manyara's unique tree-climbing lions, as well as large flocks of flamingos drawn by the algae in the lake.

• After breakfast, head towards Serengeti National Park via the beautiful high-lying farmland of Karatu and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Leaving the highlands behind, descend into the heart of wild Africa - the Serengeti National Park - with its endless plains rolling into the distance as far as the eye can see. Continue to the central park area, known as the Seronera area, one of the richest wildlife habitats in the park, featuring the Seronera River, which provides a valuable water source and therefore attracts wildlife representative of most of the Serengeti's species.

• Arrive in time for lunch and enjoy an afternoon game drive in Serengeti National Park.

• Spend this day exploring the endless plains, or be one of only a few fortunate people to glide in a hot air balloon over the Serengeti Plains, available at supplementary cost by pre-arrangement. Float silently above the awakening bush while spotting wildlife and enjoying the amazing scenery of Africa, across rivers and over numerous small villages.

• After breakfast at the lodge, depart for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Stop over at Olduvai Gorge, boasting a history dating back to the dawn of time. It was here that the anthropologists Drs. Lois and Mary Leakey discovered the skulls of 'Nutcracker Man' and 'Handy Man', both very significant links in the chain of human evolution.

• Arrive in time for lunch at the camp and, after lunch, spend the afternoon hunting for game.

• Spot herds of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, eland, warthog, hippo, and giant African elephants. Another big drawcard to this picturesque national park is its dense population of predators, which include lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs, and the ever-elusive leopard, which sometimes requires a trained eye to spot.

• Visit Lake Magadi, a large but shallow alkaline lake in the southwestern corner, which is one of the main features of the crater. A large number of flamingos, hippos, and other water birds can usually be seen here.

Drive back to the camp for dinner and overnight.

• Enjoy breakfast, after which descend over 600 meters into the crater to view wildlife.

• Later, depart for Arusha with lunch en route, arriving in the afternoon.
