The journey
Marangu Route is also known as the "Coca Cola" or "tourist" route and is the easiest and shortest route to the summit. It is also the only route with the comfort of sleeping huts at every campsite, with solar lights and comfortable beds. On this 6-day trek, ascend to Uhuru Peak through rainforests, moorland, alpine desert, and ice caps.

Day by day
On arrival, you will be met and transferred to your booked hotel in Moshi or Arusha.
Dinner and overnight.
Transfer to Marangu Gate, where you begin your climb.
Climb through lush rainforest teeming with bird and animal life, including the Colobus monkey.
Proceed to Mandara Hut.
Stay overnight.
3-4 hours' walk to Mandara Hut, which is at 2743 meters.
From Mandara, the trail crosses alpine meadows and thinly vegetated moorlands to Horombo Hut at 4167 meters.
Stay for dinner and overnight.
Duration: 5-6 hours' walk.
Continue your climb to Kibo Hut (5173 meters) at the foot of Kibo Peak, then further on to the saddle between the peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi.
Then cross the high-altitude desert for dinner and rest until midnight at Kibo Hut.
Duration: 5-6 hours' walk.
Take on the final challenge up steep, loose slopes. Start at about 1 am (0100 hours), reaching Gillman's Point at dawn.
Continue along the crater rim from Gillman's Point to Uhuru Peak (5895 meters), the Peak of Africa, with magnificent views over the vast plains below.
Return to Horombo Hut for dinner and your overnight stay.
Duration: 6-7 hours' walk.
Complete the descent via Mandara Hut to Marangu Gate and transfer to Moshi Town or Arusha Town. Have a hot shower, a leisure dinner, and an overnight stay at your booked hotel.
