9-Day Nuwakot and Kathmandu Heritage Tour with Village Homestay

• Arrive at KTM and transfer to the hotel or Lalu's homestay in Kathmandu.

• After breakfast, start sightseeing at the UNESCO heritage sites of Pashupatinath, Boudhanath and Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple).

• Visit Pashupatinath Temple, the most important shrine for Hindus in Kathmandu. Although non-Hindus are not allowed inside the temple premises, the cremation area around the temple is interesting for foreigners. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979, this area has many sadhus, or Hindu holy men, who are the centre of attraction for many foreigners. Make sure you are willing to pay them if you take their pictures, as they ask for money for being photographed.

• Then visit Swayambhunath, meaning "the self-existent," which is popularly known among foreigners as the Monkey Temple owing to the large monkey population residing in the area.

• Visit Nuwakot, the historical city from which present-day Nepal was unified.

• In the afternoon, visit the palace of the royal family and their family goddess. The view from the temple side is amazing.

• Visit the Seven-Story Palace, decorated with wooden carvings, the Bhairabi Temple, which houses the female deity, and other palaces and a museum.

• After lunch, go to the Nuwakot hilltop, from where you will see the sunset, a wide paddy field, and views of the two rivers, Tadi and Trishuli.

• Visit Suryagadi, the fort from the unification campaign and TI's highest point. From here, you can view a wide range of land terraces. This 3-5 hour day trip gives you full satisfaction for the entire trip.

• Enjoy village life and participate in various activities with the host family. You can work in the kitchen, go to the water tap, visit the temple to worship the god, or work in the field to harvest crops.

• You can also visit the school in the middle of the village and experience Nepal's schooling and educational organization.

• Drive back to Kathmandu.

• Visit Boudhanath Stupa, one of the oldest monuments in the Kathmandu Valley and one of the first monuments with a written history. One of the biggest pilgrimage sites for Tibetans, the area around this stupa is also known as Little Tibet in Kathmandu. UNESCO listed it as a World Heritage Site in 1979 A.D.

• Visit Bhaktapur Durbar Square. Bhaktapur lies on the eastern side of Kathmandu city and is also referred to as the City of Devotees, a title justified by the hundreds of temples in the area. Home to the vibrant Newari culture, it is also the city of festivals. The 55 Windows Palace, the tallest pagoda in Nepal, Pottery Square, and the museums in Bhaktapur have made it the best palace area in Nepal and a must-visit place when you are here.

• Visit Patan, which is known as the City of Fine Arts. Patan Durbar Square is one of the places in the Kathmandu Valley where medieval arts and architecture remain in their original state. The Durbar Square is full of ancient palaces, temples, and shrines, noted for their exquisite carvings, mostly among the Hindu and Buddhist monuments.

• Transfer to the airport 3 hours earlier than your departure time.
