The itinerary

Day 01

Arrival in Entebbe and Transfer to Kampala

  • Arrive at Entebbe International Airport and transfer to your hotel to relax after your flight while enjoying the cool breeze from Lake Victoria.

Dinner and overnight at Maries Royale Hotel Kampala.

Day 02

Drive to Kibale Chimpanzee Park via Fort Portal

  • Drive to Kibale Chimpanzee Park and enjoy the beauty of the Ugandan countryside. This scenic journey will remind you why Uganda is called the Pearl of Africa, especially as you reach the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains in Fort Portal for a tea plantation trek.

Dinner and overnight at Nyinabulitwa Country Resort or equivalent.

Day 03

Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale and Transfer to Queen Elizabeth

  • Drive to Kibale National Park and begin trekking to track chimpanzees. Chimpanzees are our closest cousins, though they are among the most endangered primate species. There is a 98% chance of seeing them here.
  • We locate the chimps by listening to their pant-hooting calls, then hustle to the area from where they are calling. Also expect to see other primates such as Black and White Colobus Monkeys, Black-faced Red Colobus, Red-tailed Monkeys, Olive Baboons, and an incredible array of birdlife, including the Great Blue Turaco.
  • Later, transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park while viewing animals en route.

Dinner and overnight at Park View Safari Lodge or equivalent.

Day 04

Game Drive and Kazinga Channel Boat Cruise

  • Take a game safari in Queen Elizabeth National Park. Look out for Uganda kobs, topis, elephants, lions, giant forest hogs, and Cape buffaloes. There are also several soda lakes filling ancient volcanic calderas where flamingoes reside seasonally.
  • In the afternoon, go for a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel to see wildlife such as hippos, crocodiles, elephants, and buffaloes, along with hundreds of birds of all kinds.

Overnight at Park View Safari Lodge or equivalent.

Day 05

Ishasha Tree-Climbing Lions and Transfer to Bwindi

  • Head to the southern part of the park called the Ishasha sector, home to the tree-climbing lions that can be seen resting on fig tree branches in the afternoon. You can also see other mammals such as buffalo herds, African elephants, and topis. The area is also enriched with tropical bird species such as Saddle-billed storks.
  • Then drive to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, home of the mountain gorillas.

Overnight at Gorilla Mist Camp or equivalent.

Day 06

Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi and Batwa Cultural Walk

  • Start trekking through the rainforest and bamboo-covered slopes of Bwindi Forest Park, accompanied by a Uganda Wildlife Authority guide and other trackers as you track mountain gorillas. You will also have a chance to get a glimpse of the magnificent silverback.
  • After trekking, you can either relax at your accommodation or go for an afternoon walk in a pygmy village to gain cultural insights into the local Batwa culture.

Overnight at Gorilla Mist Camp or equivalent.

Day 07

Return to Kampala and Airport Transfer

  • Drive back to Kampala for lunch, with a stop en route at the Equator line.
  • Transfer to Entebbe International Airport to catch your flight back home. End of tour.

Know before you go

  • You will be briefed about chimpanzee tracking by the forest guide. Kanyanchu is in the central part of Kibale and is the main trailhead for the park's famous forest walks.
  • The park is surrounded by the snow-capped Rwenzori Mountains and, in the north, the "Mountains of the Moon." The park is bordered on the northeast by the Kazinga Channel Boat Safari, Lake George, and Lake Edward on the southwest; its western border adjoins the Zaire Parc Du Virunga.
