Attend a traditional dance performance by a group of women called 'Tufo da Mafalala'. These ladies represent the Macua ethnic group from the northern shores of Mozambique, most of whom come from Ilha de Moçambique, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Besides its literature and poetry, Mafalala is also famous for its musicians and for contributing to the promotion, evolution, and styling of Marrabenta, the most popular musical genre in Mozambique, as well as for its great sportsmen such as Eusebio da Silva Ferreira.
Visit the houses of the famous freedom fighters who lived in this neighbourhood, namely Samora Machel, the first President of Mozambique; Joaquim Chissano, the second President of Mozambique; Pascoal Mocumbi, former Prime Minister; José Craveirinha; and Noemia de Sousa, the forefather of Mozambican poetry.
