Borobudur, Pawon, and Mendut Temple Tour

Meet your tour guide at your hotel in Yogyakarta.
Proceed to Borobudur Temple on a 1.5-hour drive. Walk around the temple for about 1.5 hours.
Travel to Pawon Temple, located between Mendut and Borobudur, a jewel of Javanese temple architecture.

Borobudur Temple is the largest Buddhist monument in the world, located about 42 kilometers from Yogyakarta, and is one of the most famous World Heritage Sites in Indonesia. Over the centuries, this magnificent temple was buried under jungle growth and volcanic ash.
Pawon Temple is located between Mendut and Borobudur and is a jewel of Javanese temple architecture. The original name of this Buddhist shrine is uncertain. Pawon literally means "kitchen" in the Javanese language, which is derived from the root word "awu," or "dust." The connection to the word "dust" also suggests that this temple was probably built as a tomb or mortuary temple for a king. Hence, Pawon comes from the word Per-awu-an, a place that contains dust, referring to a temple that houses the dust of a cremated king.
Mendut Temple is frequently used to celebrate Vesak Day every May full moon, and pilgrims from Indonesia and all parts of the world come to this ceremony. It is older than Candi Borobudur. Its architecture is square and has an entrance on its steps. Its roof is also square and terraced.
