The itinerary

Day 01

Arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport and Transfer to Moshi

Arrive at Kilimanjaro Airport and transfer to Moshi Ameg Hotel (B&B).

Day 02

Drive to Machame Gate and Trek to Machame Camp

Drive to Machame Gate just after breakfast (1800 m).
After park formalities, continue on a steep trail that leads through the natural rainforest along a clearing ridge to Machame Camp.

Day 03

Trek Up the Moorland Ridge to Shira Plateau

Continue up a moorland ridge through the giant heathers. The trail gradually becomes very rocky before levelling out on the Shira Plateau.

Day 04

Climb Toward Lava Tower and Descend to Barranco Camp

After breakfast, climb upward on a rocky path leading east toward the Lava Tower, with impressive views of the Breach Wall precipices.
A short distance farther on, the trek descends to Barranco Camp.

Day 05

Climb the Great Barranco to Karanga Camp

Scramble easily to the top of the Great Barranco, then traverse screes and ridges to the Karanga Valley campsite beneath the icefalls of the Southern Glaciers.

Day 06

Ascend the Ridge to Barafu Hut

The trail continues ahead and ascends to the ridge at Barafu Hut, an airy location with little vegetation.

Day 07

Midnight Summit Push to Uhuru Peak and Descent to Mweka Hut

The climb to the summit starts just after midnight, allowing you to reach the summit by sunrise. Then ascend the screes leading to Stella Point (5725 m, 6 hrs).
From here, a further 40-minute walk leads to Uhuru Peak Summit (5895 m).
Descend to Barafu Hut for a rest and brunch before continuing down to Mweka Hut at 3100 m.
