Spend a day exploring Quilotoa Lake and its crater, almost 9 km in diameter, in the Ecuadorian Andes. Learn how this lake and crater were formed by the collapse of a dacite volcano following a catastrophic VEI-6 eruption about 600 years ago, producing pyroclastic flows and lahars that reached the Pacific Ocean and spreading volcanic ash throughout the northern Andes. The tour also includes time in Pujilí, one of the seven cantons of Cotopaxi Province in Ecuador.
