The itinerary

1
Day 01

Nairobi to Nanyuki and Trek to Old Moses

  • You will be picked up from the airport on arrival or from your Nairobi hotel and driven through the rich agricultural highlands of central Kenya to Nanyuki. On arrival in Nanyuki, you will have lunch and meet your team of porters and guide. After lunch and some shopping, you will be transferred to Sirimon Gate, where the climb starts. Walk through the rainforest for 9 km (3-4 hours) to the first mountain hut, Old Moses (3,300 m).

Day 02

Old Moses to Shipton Camp via Mackinder's Valley

  • After breakfast at Old Moses, continue climbing through Mackinder's Valley to the second hut, Shipton's Hut (4,200 m), for dinner and overnight. A picnic lunch will be provided at the picnic rocks along the valley.

Day 03

Acclimatization Day at Shipton Camp

  • You will have a full day of rest. You can do a circuit tour of the main peaks or visit the caves, as well as tour the base of the peaks where technical climbing starts. You can also decide to rest at the camp. All meals will be at the camp. This will be an acclimatization day to give you a better chance of making the summit of Point Lenana.

Day 04

Summit Point Lenana and Descend to Old Moses

  • Early in the morning at 3:00 am, you will start the climb to Point Lenana, 4,985 m (17,058 ft). On a very clear day, you should be able to see Mt Kilimanjaro in the south and Mt Elgon to the west. You will descend to Shipton's Camp for breakfast and, soon after, continue descending to Old Moses Camp with a picnic lunch en route at Likii North River.

Day 05

Old Moses to Nairobi

  • After breakfast, transfer from Old Moses to catch transport at the gate. You will have an early lunch in Nanyuki before proceeding to Nairobi, where the tour ends with a drop-off at the airport or at your pickup point.
