The itinerary

Day 01

Arrival in Kumai and Orangutan Feeding at Tanjung Harapan

  • Get picked up from Pangkalan Bun Airport by our guide, who will take you to Kumai by taxi after a short briefing.
  • Board a traditional wooden boat called a Klotok on the Sekonyer River.
  • Visit Tanjung Harapan Camp and walk to the feeding station. The orangutans come to the feeding platform in the afternoon. This is also the right time to witness proboscis monkeys from close proximity.
    • Spend the night on the boat.
    • Meals: Lunch & Dinner

Day 02

Sekonyer River Cruise to Pondok Tanggui and Camp Leakey

  • Cruise up the Sekonyer River for an hour to reach the second rehabilitation centre for orphaned baby orangutans at Pondok Tanggui.
  • Walk through the forest for 45 minutes to the feeding platform, where the baby orangutans are given additional food.
  • Enjoy the surrounding views of the area. Here, you can spot other wild Borneo creatures while watching the orangutans feeding.
  • Head back to the boat and cruise for 2 hours to the oldest camp in Tanjung Puting National Park, Camp Leakey.
  • Explore the surrounding camp, visit the information centre, and, if you are lucky, spot Tom, the king of orangutans.
  • Return to the boat for lunch and take a rest. Sometimes orangutans come to the jetty expecting food. Later, continue cruising down the river.
  • See many kinds of wild animals in their natural habitats, such as proboscis monkeys, exotic birds, and macaques returning to their shelters.
    • Spend the night on the boat.
    • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 03

Pesalat Camp Visit and Transfer to the Airport

  • Enjoy an early morning breakfast before proceeding to Pesalat Camp.
  • Take a walk and see how the locals plant new trees in the hope of sustaining the green habitat.
  • Head back to the boat and cruise back to Kumai, then travel to Pangkalan Bun Airport by taxi for your onward flight.
