Sonargaon and Moinamoti Archaeological Excursion
Leave Dhaka early in the morning for Moinamoti, about 114 km southeast of Dhaka and well connected by road. The journey takes around two and a half hours. On arrival, visit the War Cemetery, where you can see the graves of soldiers who died on the Myanmar front during World War II.
Drive to the archaeological camp, where Shalban Vihara and the museum are located. Excavated Buddhist remains from the 8th and 9th centuries are dotted all along the north-south Lalmai-Moinamoti hill range.
From here, you may also visit the adjacent sites of Ananda Vihar, Charpatra Mura, Itakhola Mura, Rupban Mura, Kutila Mura, and Triratna Stupa. Among these, Ananda Vihara, Charpatra Mura, and Kutila Mura are situated within the Moinamoti Cantonment, so prior permission from the cantonment authorities is necessary for the visit. After lunch at Miami Restaurant, drive back toward Dhaka.
On the way back, stop at Sonargaon, the oldest city and the capital of Bengal from the 13th to 17th century, for sightseeing. If time permits, visit the folklore museum and Panam Village. Arrive in Dhaka in the evening and transfer to your hotel or residence.
