Chavín de Huántar Ruins and Highland Scenic Drive
Pick up from your hotel in Huaraz at 8 am and depart for the ruins of Chavín de Huántar.
Drive through the villages of Recuay and Huacapampa, crossing the Santa River.
Continue past eucalyptus trees and through a sheepherders' village.
Join the paved highway and travel along the highlands, with their pastures and straw-covered landscapes.
Arrive at a small valley and discover Querococha Lake.
Continue to the highest pass at Tunel de Cahuish, an important hydrographical division where water on the west side flows to the Pacific Ocean and water on the east side flows to the Atlantic Ocean.
Travel through the narrow valley in a zig-zag route, passing along the flanks of the Río Mosna.
Arrive at the archaeological site of Chavín de Huántar.

Explore the castle of Chavín and discover its many labyrinthine rooms.
Proceed to one of the main buildings among the Chavín ruins, the Lanzón, a large carved stone remain of the pre-Incas.
