The itinerary

1
Day 01

Nairobi to Reedback Campsite via Nyeri and Aberdare Park

  • Depart from your Nairobi hotel in the morning and travel north to Nyeri in central Kenya.

  • Arrive in Mweiga for lunch, then meet your guide and porters before proceeding to the park headquarters to finalize formalities with the park authorities and pick up the security guards.

  • Drive into the forested eastern slopes of the Aberdare Range for a short game drive, looking for elephants, buffaloes, baboons, leopards, forest warthogs, bongos, other antelopes, and bird species, before continuing higher into the bamboo forest and then the moorland.

  • You will also have the chance to explore waterfalls, including Chania, Queen's Cave, and Karuru waterfalls, before reaching your first overnight stop at Reedback Campsite (3,000 m) for dinner and overnight.

Day 02

Trek from Reedback Camp to Simba River Camp

  • After breakfast, walk for 6-7 hours through the moorland and Hagenia tree zones.

  • Lunch will be served en route before continuing to Simba River Campsite for dinner and overnight.

  • Along the way, you might encounter wildlife such as elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, and bird species.

Day 03

Hike through varied ecosystems to Wandare Road Junction

  • After breakfast, hike through different ecosystems to reach Wandare Road Junction Campsite for dinner and overnight.

  • Lunch will be served en route.

Day 04

Summit Oldonyo Lesatima and depart for Nairobi

  • After an early breakfast, begin the hike to the road end and then follow the trail leading to the summit of the Aberdare Range at Oldonyo Lesatima (4001 m).

  • This area offers the best scenery from the top of the Aberdares, with views stretching across the surrounding landscapes as far as the Mt. Kenya Peaks to the east. Afterward, return to the campsite, where you will meet your transfer out of the mountain and proceed to your next destination.
