Itinerary

1. Day 1: Madrid to La Macha

   • Arrive at Madrid airport and meet your English-speaking Spanish tour guide.

   • Visit the Lagunas of Alcazar for an ideal introduction to the Wetlands of La Mancha. Witness plenty of birdlife here such as flamingos, White-Headed Ducks, Marbled Ducks, Pochards, Marsh Harriers and a wide variety of waders.

   Drop-off at the predecided accommodation.

2. Day 2: Birdwatching and Game Drive in the Steppe and Sierra

   • Behold the steppes of La Mancha, the realm of the Great Bustards, nobles of the plains. 
   • Explore the areas south of Ciudad Real where vast cereal fields, rough ground and gently rolling countryside define the Manchegan steppe habitat. 
   • Drive along dirt roads frequented by Great and Little Bustards, Stone Curlews, Golden Plovers, Pin-tailed and Black-bellied Sandgrouse, Calandra Larks and a whole host of raptors such as Black-shouldered Kites, Buzzards, and Common and Lesser Kestrels. 

   • Discover the Cabañeros National Park. Famed for its mountainous terrain, Mediterranean Forests and Raña which is also known as the Spanish Serengeti, this park is home to Red Deers, Wild Boars, Spanish Imperial Eagles and the second-largest breeding colony of Black Vultures in the world.

   Return to hotel for the day.

3. Day 3: Explore the National Parks of Ciudad Real

   • Marvel at the Tablas of Daimiel, the second of the two National Parks within Ciudad Real. It consists of roughly 2000 Ha of marsh and wetland, unique in Europe. A favourite stopover for migrants, summer and winter visitors, the Tablas provide a veritable feast of passerines, waders and raptors.

   • Drop-off at a predecided destination.
