Bagan Pagodas, Temples, Market and Sunset

  • Visit one of Asia's most stunning archaeological destinations, with more than 2,000 pagodas dotting the plains along the legendary Ayeyarwaddy River.

  • Shop at the bustling Nyaung Oo local market.

  • Visit some of Bagan's distinctive pagodas, including Shwezigone, a prototype of later Myanmar style, and Wetkyi-in Gubyutgyi, a 13th-century cave temple with fine wall paintings.

  • Explore one of the most outstanding architectural landmarks, Ananda Temple, one of the most revered pagodas in all Myanmar, containing four tall standing Buddhas within.

  • Go sightseeing at Dhammayangyi Temple in the afternoon. It is a massive later-period temple with the finest brickwork in Bagan. Also visit Thatbyinnyu Temple, which towers above the other monuments of Bagan.

  • Behold Sulamani Temple, known for its mural paintings. Study paintings dating back from the 13th to the 16th centuries.

  • At the end of the tour, watch the sunset from Shwe San Daw Paya.

There were 55 kings who ruled in Bagan from the 11th century to the 13th century, and it is home to a number of ancient monuments. In 1975, a major earthquake hit Bagan, and nearly 2,000 monuments collapsed. Nowadays, one can study mural paintings and architecture dating back from the 11th to the 13th centuries.
