Hike to Lake 69 through Huascarán National Park
Pick up from your hotel in Huaraz at 5:00 am.
Drive north in private transportation along the Callejón de Huaylas valley.
Travel along the Santa River in the valley that divides the Cordillera Blanca to the east and the Cordillera Negra to the west.
Pass through traditional towns with their farmlands and enjoy views of the peaks of the Cordillera Blanca.
Drive up the dirt road to the northeast, where Lake 69 lies on the flank of Pisco and Chacraraju Mountain.
Arrive at Huascarán National Park and pass by the beautiful lakes of Chinancocha and Orconcocha.
Continue driving to Cebolla Pampa after reaching Yungay.
Start hiking toward Lake 69. The first section is a pleasant hike across an almost flat area for about one hour, passing through trees and enjoying views of Huascarán, the highest peak in the Cordillera Blanca, as well as Chopicalqui and Yanapaccha.
Ascend along the marked zig-zag path to the first small lake.
Arrive beneath the glaciated peaks of Chacraraju, Yanapaccha, Huascarán, and Chopicalqui.
Relax by the waterfall in the valley and have lunch.
Continue ascending on the final zig-zag path to Lake 69 and enjoy a close-up view of Pisco and Chacraraju mountains.
Return to Huaraz.
