Day 01

Cape Town to Oudtshoorn via a Big 5 Safari

  • Get picked up from your accommodation in Cape Town, Stellenbosch, Somerset West, or Strand, and join your tour guide to commence a scenic drive to a private game reserve.

  • Start a 4x4 game drive (approximately 2 hours) and explore Africa's Big 5 in their natural habitat within a malaria-free private game reserve that is home to an abundance of wildlife, including giraffe, white rhino, lion, elephant, cheetah, buffalo, zebra, and many other species. Leopards are unlikely to be seen.

  • Visit a working ostrich farm and learn about the flightless, tallest, and heaviest bird in the world.

Overnight stay in Oudtshoorn, a semi-desert town in the heart of the Klein Karoo.

Day 02

Cango Wildlife Ranch and Route 62 Return

  • Visit Cango Wildlife Ranch, a sanctuary for some of the world's most endangered animals that contributes to the conservation of over 40 species.

  • Drive along Route 62, South Africa's famous country road, and capture the beauty of high mountains, twisting passes, rugged Karoo plains, vineyards, and orchards.

  • Travel back to reach your accommodation in selected Cape Town, Stellenbosch, Somerset West, or Strand areas by late evening.

Optional at extra cost: meet with elephants, and interact with and feed these orphaned, gentle giants.

    • Elephant Experience (approximately R345 per person)

    • Availability of cub encounters can vary, and crocodile cage diving is not available during the winter season (May to September).

  • These optional activities are offered and scheduled as part of each tour's free time to personalize your trip. All optional activities are pre-booked for your convenience, but they are weather dependent and can therefore only be paid for and confirmed on the day of the activity.

  • Take your credit or debit card on the tour, as most activity providers and shops accept card payments, or the tour guide can stop at an ATM on request to give you the option to withdraw cash as needed.

  • Most backpackers where you stay even have communal kitchens to prepare food if you want to buy ingredients on tour and make your own meals.

  • Luxury 3-star guesthouse and 4-star lodge packages do include breakfast at every overnight stop.

Know before you go

  • Pick-up time for join group tour packages is early morning between 06:00 am and 08:00 am, but an email with the exact pick-up time will be sent a few days before the tour departs.

  • The transfer service will collect you from your preferred Cape Town address within approximately 10 km of the city centre, or from the Stellenbosch/Somerset West area.

  • Passengers must be ready at the confirmed pick-up time to avoid delays.

  • It is not advised to make any scheduled arrangements, especially flights, for the return or last day of the tour, as traffic and weather can delay the approximate drop-off times.
