The itinerary

1
Day 01

Moshi to Lake Manyara National Park

  • After breakfast in the morning, leave Moshi Town and drive to Lake Manyara National Park (206 km, 4-5 hours).
  • Enjoy afternoon game drives. Common animals you are likely to see include giraffes, zebras, elephants, tree-climbing lions, leopards, warthogs, hyenas, buffaloes, baboons, blue and vervet monkeys, and several species of birds, including lesser and greater flamingos, pelicans, and storks on the lake.
  • Later in the evening, drive to a lodge/campsite outside the park.

Dinner and overnight.

Day 02

To Serengeti National Park via Ngorongoro

  • Leave the lodge/campsite in the morning after breakfast with your picnic lunch and drive to Serengeti National Park via the Ngorongoro Conservation Area (190 km, 4-6 hours, as the road is sometimes very rough).
  • The game drive will be en route to a campsite in the Seronera area at the heart of the park for dinner and overnight. Common animals likely to be seen include wildebeests, giraffes, zebras, elephants, lions, hippos, leopards, cheetahs, eland, warthogs, hyenas, buffaloes, blue monkeys, vervet monkeys, baboons, and several species of birds.

Day 03

Full-Day Game Drives in the Serengeti

  • Spend a full day inside Serengeti National Park with game drives in different locations.
  • Later, drive back to the lodge/campsite.

Day 04

Serengeti Sunrise and Ngorongoro Crater Rim

  • Enjoy early morning game drives before breakfast. If the day is clear, see the sunrise over the endless plains, one of the area's attractions, and you will probably spot nocturnal animals as they return to their dens.
  • After breakfast, go on the final game drive on the way out of the park to the rim of Ngorongoro Crater and continue to a lodge/campsite (175 km, 4-5 hours), which overlooks the crater, for dinner and overnight.

Day 05

Ngorongoro Crater Exploration

  • After breakfast in the morning, descend the 600 m-high crater walls to the crater floor with your picnic lunch.
  • Explore this fantastic area until later in the afternoon, then ascend the crater and drive back to the lodge/campsite for dinner and overnight. Common animals likely to be seen in the crater include rhinos, wildebeests, zebras, elephants, lions, cheetahs, warthogs, hippos, hyenas, buffaloes, blue monkeys, vervet monkeys, baboons, and several species of birds, including the heaviest flying bird, the kori bustard, and the smallest flying one, larks.

Day 06

Walking Tour to Empakaai Crater

  • Take an early morning walking tour to Empakaai Crater, one of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area's eight craters. This walking tour helps you stretch your legs after days of sitting in the car. It allows you to sample virgin trails with abundant bird life and impressive vistas.

Dinner and overnight at a lodge/campsite.

Day 07

Tarangire National Park Safari

  • Leave the campsite/lodge in the morning after breakfast and drive to Tarangire National Park (60 km, 1 hour).
  • Enjoy a half-day game drive, then continue in the late afternoon to a lodge/campsite in Arusha. Common animals found in this park are elephants, cheetahs, wildebeests, elands, zebras, lions, leopards, giraffes, tree-climbing pythons, and many species of birds. This park is also heavily dominated by giant baobab trees, among the longest-living trees in the wilderness.

Day 08

Arusha National Park and Return

  • Leave the lodge/campsite after breakfast and drive to Arusha National Park (40 km, 1 hour).
  • Enjoy full-day game drives in this beautiful park, and later in the evening, drive to Moshi/Arusha or to the airport. Common animals likely to be seen in this park are giraffes, zebras, bushbucks, warthogs, hyenas, buffaloes, rare black and white monkeys, blue monkeys, and several species of birds.
