Embark on an adventurous trek through the Dudhkoshi River Valley to Everest Base Camp, following the Dudh Kosi trail past Monjo and Jorsalle to Namche Bazaar. Along the way, marvel at Everest, Amadablam, and Nuptse, and continue ascending through Dingboche, Dughla, and Gorakshep before reaching base camp. The journey also includes acclimatization stops in the Khumbu region and a climb to Kala Patthar for an incredible view of the surrounding mountains.

The itinerary

1
Day 01

Fly to Lukla and Trek through the Dudhkoshi Valley to Phakding

  • We will pick you up from your hotel and drive you to the airport in Kathmandu. A quick 40-minute flight from Kathmandu will take you to Lukla (2,840m), the gateway to the Khumbu region and the starting point of this trek.
  • Travel through the Dudhkoshi River Valley, past settlements such as Chheplung and Chaurikharka, before reaching Phakding.
  • Enjoy great views of the Himalayas during the trek. It's a leisurely day with a gradual descent of approximately 200 meters.

Day 02

Trek along the Dudh Kosi to Namche Bazaar

  • Get ready for a steep climb.
  • Follow the path of the thundering Dudh Kosi, crossing numerous suspension bridges along the way.
  • Trek past Monjo and Jorsalle villages until you reach Namche Bazaar (3,440m), a mountain town and the center of commerce in the Khumbu region.

Day 03

Acclimatization Day in Namche Bazaar

  • Stay in Namche and allow your body to acclimatize to the altitude. You have the option to hike to nearby areas. The trading and administrative center of the Khumbu region, Namche is home to various government offices, banks, and plenty of shops and eateries.
  • One of the most interesting optional hikes on our list takes you to Everest View Hotel, from where you can enjoy great views of Mount Everest and other mountains in the Himalayas.

Day 04

Trek to Tengboche Monastery

  • Start your day with a quick ascent, followed by a flat trail to Kyanjuma.
  • Travel downhill from there to reach Phunki Tenga.
  • Cross the Dudh Koshi River to reach Tengboche Monastery, the most important monastery in the region.
  • Depending on the weather and other factors, you might end your day in Debuche (3,800m) or stay in Namche.

Day 05

Trek through Pangboche and Imja Valley to Dingboche

  • Make a quick descent to Debuche (if you did not do it yesterday) before starting an uphill climb towards Pangboche.
  • See Everest, Amadablam, and Nuptse mountains along the way.
  • Stop in Pangboche for tea before continuing to Somare for lunch.
  • Travel through the Imja Valley and cross Lobuche Stream before ascending to Dingboche (4,410m).

Day 06

Acclimatization Day in Dingboche

  • The settlement of Dingboche is gorgeous, with fields and pastures flanked by stone walls. Explore the village or relax in your hotel and allow your body to acclimatize to the changing altitude.
  • You can also participate in our optional hikes to Nangkartshang Peak or the Chhukung Valley.

Day 07

Climb to Lobuche via Dughla and the Khumbu Glacier Area

  • A difficult day with steep climbing awaits you. The day starts with a gradual climb to Dughla, where we will stop for a quick lunch. It will be an early lunch today, but we do not have another option before reaching Lobuche.
  • A steep climb from Dughla will take us to the memorial of famous mountaineers such as Scott Fischer and Babu Chiri Sherpa. Enter the Khumbu Glacier area and follow the route to Lobuche (4,910m), where you will be spending the night.

Day 08

Trek to Gorakshep and Visit Everest Base Camp

  • The first section of the trail will take you to Gorakshep via the Khumbu Glacier.
  • Drop your bags and enjoy your lunch in Gorakshep before heading to Everest Base Camp (5,364m). The trail takes you through terrain strewn with rocks, moraines, streams, and a glacier.
  • Reach Everest Base Camp, located in the middle of the Khumbu Glacier.
  • Return to Gorakshep for an overnight stay.
  • If you can muster some energy, and if the weather permits, we will hike up to Kala Patthar late in the afternoon to enjoy the sunset. Please note that it is not easy to cover Gorakshep, Everest Base Camp, and Kala Patthar on the same day.

Day 09

Climb Kala Patthar and Descend to Pheriche

  • Clamber to the top of Kala Patthar for an incredible 360-degree view of some of the highest peaks in the world, including Mt Everest (8,848m), Mt Lhotse (8,516m), Mt. Nuptse (7,861 meters), Mt. Pumori (7,161 meters), and Mt Ama Dablam (6,812 meters).
  • See countless other smaller peaks, the Khumbu Icefall, and the massive Khumbu Glacier. Reaching Kala Patthar also marks the turnaround point of this trek. It's time to start your descent. Reach Pheriche in the evening.

Day 10

Descend to Namche Bazaar via Sagarmatha National Park

  • Continue your journey downhill.
  • Cross the Dudh Kosi River and do a steep climb to Kyanjuma.
  • From this point on, the trail is mainly flat or downhill until you reach the headquarters of Sagarmatha National Park just above Namche.

Day 11

Final Trek Back to Lukla

  • A long day on a downhill trail awaits you. The last day of this trek is full of steep descents along the Dudh Kosi until you reach Phakding for lunch. The trail from Phakding to Lukla is mostly a gentle uphill climb.

Day 12

Fly Back to Kathmandu and Farewell Dinner

  • Transfer to the airport to catch an early morning flight to Kathmandu.
  • Upon arriving in Kathmandu, transfer to your hotel. Your guide will accompany you for a complimentary farewell dinner provided by the company in the evening.

This is the end of our services, and we will provide departure transfers upon request.

What to bring

  • Head: Sun hat or scarf, light balaclavas or warm fleece hats, sunglasses with UV protection
  • Lower Body: Hiking shorts, cotton long pants, light thermal bottoms for expedition, fleece or woollen pants (seasonal), waterproof shell pants (preferably those made of breathable fabric)
  • Feet: Thin, lightweight inner socks; warm, thick wool hiking socks; hiking boots with spare laces; camp shoes (sneakers and sandals); gaiters for hiking in the winter to the base camp upper
  • Body: T-shirts, lightweight thermal tops meant for an expedition, fleece jackets or pullovers, wind-stopper jackets (optional), waterproof shell jackets (preferably breathable fabric), a down vest, and a jacket
  • Hands: Lightweight gloves, thick gloves or mittens with a waterproof outer shell (seasonal)
  • Personal Hygiene: Wet wipes (baby wipes), tissue/toilet roll, anti-bacterial handwash
  • Accessories: Sleeping bag (rated zero degrees centigrade), headlamps (e.g., Petzl Zoom) with spare bulbs and batteries, trekking bags/duffel bags, basic first aid kits and large plastic bags, daypack (approximately 2500 to 3000 cubic inches), trekking poles, water bottles (2) or camel bags, toiletries (small wash towels, toilet papers, etc.), earplugs (just in case)
  • Toiletries: Medium-sized, quick-drying towels, toothbrushes and paste (preferably biodegradable), multipurpose soap bars (preferably biodegradable), deodorants, nail clippers, face and body moisturizer, female hygiene products
  • Extras: Binoculars, books, trail maps/guidebooks, notebooks and pens, swimming costume
