Embark on a seven-day journey to Cape Maclear and Liwonde National Park, combining city sightseeing in Lilongwe with lake adventures and wildlife encounters. Interact with local people, enjoy traditional dances and local dishes, and discover the natural highlights of Mangochi and Liwonde Machinga. Cruise to Thumbi View Island, swim and snorkel around the surrounding islands, and explore Liwonde National Park, home to Malawi's largest elephant, black rhino, cheetah, and waterbuck populations.

About one hour after our arrival, we'll take a boat cruise to Thumbi View Island, where we'll see a fish eagle picking fish from the lake and have a chance to see beautiful, colourful mbuna fish.

The itinerary

Day 01

Arrival in Lilongwe

We will welcome you at the airport and transfer you to the hotel.

Day 02

Lilongwe City Tour and Bunda Hill Hike

Around 9 am, we'll drive around the city of Lilongwe and visit the Parliament Building, Kamuzu Mausoleum, Memorial Pillar, Bingu National Stadium, Lizulu local market, artifact markets, and R&L Farm Ranch. Later in the day, we'll hike Bunda Hill.

Day 03

Journey to Cape Maclear and Thumbi View Island

Early in the morning, around 8:30 am, we'll embark on a trip to Cape Maclear in the Mangochi area. About one hour after our arrival, we'll take a boat cruise to Thumbi View Island, where we'll see a fish eagle picking fish from the lake and have a chance to see beautiful, colourful mbuna fish.

Day 04

Island Swimming, Snorkelling, and Beach BBQ

We'll take a boat to the surrounding islands, spending the day swimming, snorkelling, and enjoying a BBQ on the beach of the island.

Day 05

Transfer to Liwonde National Park and Shire River Boat Safari

Early in the morning, we'll drive to Liwonde National Park. The park is home to Malawi's largest elephant, black rhino, cheetah, and waterbuck populations. Around 6 p.m., we'll go for a boat drive on the Shire River to see hippos, crocodiles, and many aquatic animals.
