Day 01
Western Cape Geological Road Tour
- 07:30 AM - Meet your South African guide in either Cape Town or Stellenbosch and depart for a scenic day of geological exploration.
- 08:30 AM - Arrive in Paarl and visit the Granite outcrops and boulders at Paarl Mountain Reserve, a striking regional geological feature.
- 09:30 AM - Continue towards Wellington for a scenic drive up the historic Bainskloof Pass, exploring weathered Granite exposures and the Malmesbury Shales. The pass offers stunning views of the Witrivier and the surrounding mountains.
- 10:30 AM - Drive through the spectacular Limietberge and Slanghoekberge mountains, exploring the Table Mountain Group and Cape Granite.
- 11:00 AM - Journey to Ceres via Mitchell's Pass, stopping to investigate exposed geological formations.
- 12:30 PM - Enjoy a picnic lunch in Gydo Pass or stop for lunch locally in Ceres.
- 13:30 PM - Travel back towards Paarl, passing through Worcester and heading into Du Toitskloof Pass. Here, witness more breathtaking Table Mountain Group geological features and steep ravines.
- 14:30 PM - Head towards Franschhoek Pass, stopping at another geological site with Malmesbury Shales and enjoying a brief coffee break at Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve.
- 15:30 PM - Continue through Franschhoek, exploring the Pakhuis tillite and the fossil-rich Cederberg Shale formations.
- 16:00 PM - Visit the famous Theewaterskloof Dam and make a quick stop to delve into its geological history.
- 16:30 PM - Travel through Viljoen's Pass on the N2 route and return to Cape Town or Stellenbosch, wrapping up a full day of geological exploration.
